The government can't tax it because of the way it's sold. That is the only reason. I agree they tell a lot of lies about it. Alcohol is 1000 times worse for you

Throat cancer, lung cancer, manic depression, short and long term memory loss, impotency, insomnia, paranoia, emotional dependency, clinical depression, psychosis, loss of cognitive control, muscle spasms, smelly breath, low birth weight in premature babies
^^ What medical conclusive medical proof is there that smoking marijuana causes or influences any of these things? Are these studies cross refrenced with cigarette smoking? By the way, marijuana is able to cure many of the things reported there for many people. Loss of cognitive control? What about alcohol? Ask a police officer which is worse; driving drunk or driving stoned. Emotional dependency? What emotional dependence is there with a drug? There may be a psychological dependency, but alcohol is actually also a physical dependency. If you really look at the great number of youths with their lives ruined by marijuana, you can't help but feel some sympathy for them. There is great hypocricy with making alcohol legal but marijuana even illegal for medical purposes. There is conclusive medical data on the benefits of marijuana smoking. It is unfortunate that there are so many close minded people like you that feel the need to legislate their falsely-based conclusions.

It is bad because of the cumulative effects on the brain.
Lack of desire to be productive is most common, long term use causes personality disorders.
While you may belief the websites of pro pot smokers, the facts are clear when you listen to medical professionals who deal with long term users.
Just look at long term users. A few maybe "functional" but those who sit and puff all day only want to sit and puff all day.

because it is a waste of money, it is bad for your body and it damages your brain. It is also known that many users go onto heavier drugs. Deny government stuff all you want but anything that makes you "stoned" is doing something to your brain that is not meant to happen and over long time (and I know a few long timers), it will have serious effects on you. Also, no one will want to kiss you cause it tastes disgusting and no one wants to hang around someone who is more concerned about their next score, their munchies, hiding thier red eyes or spending all day in bed than they are about those around them!!!

It would be better for all if the government took a realistic view of marijuana.
A few years ago I vaguely remember hearing some government
spokesman making a declaration of alarm at the sudden recent upsurge of emergency room admissions for MARIJUANA OVERDOSE.
Went out of their way to throw Tommy Chong in the joint
____
In 2003, Chong was targeted by two American investigations code-named Operation Pipe Dreams and Operation Headhunter, which sought out businesses selling drug paraphernalia, mostly water pipes. He was charged for his part in financing and promoting Chong Glass/Nice Dreams, a company started by his son Paris. Chong agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute drug paraphernalia in exchange for non-prosecution of wife, Shelby, and his son.
While 54 of the 55 individuals charged as a result of the operations were sentenced to fines and home detentions, Chong was sentenced on September 11, 2003, to 9 months in a federal prison, forfeiture of $103,000, and a year of probation.
While government officials denied that Chong was treated any differently from the other defendants, many felt that he was made an example of by the government. Soon afterwards, marijuana advocates started the Free Tommy Chong! movement that called for his release.
Chong served his sentence from October 8, 2003 to July 7, 2004, and in December 2004 was to appear off-Broadway in a show entitled The Marijuana-Logues, a parody of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues. His legal concerns, including that audiences were actually smoking marijuana in some of the shows early in its tour ultimately caused him to quit the show.

_____
I live in Seattle.
Marijuana for personal use is the lowest priority for the Seattle Police Department.
They got bigger fish to fry.
The Feds are like ANAL SCHOOLMARMS.
But...to answer question.
Bad as as "Evil" or bad as in ..."maybe not a good idea for some one under the age of 18."?
I am 55..I smoke bud.
The guy I get my bud from is 60...
The kids sure ain't getting their bud from us.
They're getting their drugs from the same place we got ours back in the sixties.....from our peers.
We had a number of them back in Saddle Brook New Jersey.
The Township of Saddle Brook is located in Bergen County, New Jersey just 8 miles West of New York City. Saddle Brook is a small suburban community with a population of approximately 13,155 (2000 census) covering an area of approximately 2.69 square miles. The majority of the Township is residential, however, it is a central transportation hub as it is intersected by the Garden State Parkway (exit 159), Interstate Route 80 (exit 62), and State Highway 46. In addition, State Highways 4 and 17 are within a quarter mile of its border. Even with the large influx of daily traffic, Saddle Brook still has that small town feel to it.

I doubt if Feds will ever legalize.
But Cities or States can decline to assist Feds in enforcement.
They can say they got bigger fish to fry.

Well, I'd say because too many people use it for NON-RECREATION. No death's can be attributed to it as itself, but the actions taken by the overuse of it in dangerous situations... Think about it. Don't get me wrong, but a wake and bake will not make you the safest driver.

other than the high you get similar to alcohol marijuana is just as bad as tobacco but i honestly believe that it's outlawed because we don't have an accurate test to find if you are stoned at the time or not like the breathalizer test for booze

What can marijuana give you that you can't give yourself?
Nobody needs pot unless you are hooked up to an IV tube in hospital and the morphine is no longer effective in managing your pain. You dying of a terminal disease like AIDS?
