Generally house arrest means you are only allowed out for employment purposes and medical appointments.

I would guess that it varies slightly from state to state, like most everything else in criminal justice. A friend of mine was on house arrest (electronic monitoring or EMP) a few years ago. He was allowed out of the house about 45 minutes per week for shopping, errand-running, etc. If he had a job interview or some other appointment he could let his probation officer know beforehand and get the okay to be out of the house during that time. After a while of being on it without violations, he was allowed a little more free time occasionally. It's certainly no fun, but it's better than actually being in jail--by far!

House arrest rules can vary. Some rules can be very strict and only allow one outing a week for groceries etc. and medical appointments (and the person must be accompanied by someone specified in the order). Some rules allow the person to go to work everyday, but they must come home directly after work. Some allow the person to leave any time as long as they are accompanied by someone specified in the order. It will really depend on the circumstances.

In general you are to be home if you are not at work. If all goes well with you, and if you pay your fines if you have them , you will have no problem. The hardest part about house arrest is the Temptation. So keep your P.O. happy and they will be looking for a reason to let you off early !

I know how you feel it is hard to tell someone that because people usually think the worst. I was in a similar situation wrong place wrong time and got arrested myself. I met my now husband right before I had to go in. It was difficult to tell him because I was not sure what he would think of me. To make a long story short. I told him the situation and he understood and he waited for me and we now have been married for almost 11 years.

House arrest sucks. You can only leave if you have the "responsible adult" whom is over 21 with you. But they usually work with you if you have a job ect.
