Well we need to think that most of what is recorded in international media is done so for the domestic audience. Most of it is just fluffing up feathers to make the leaders of nation appear strong and as if they are willing to fight the world for their people.
An arms race is nothing more then a means to ensure that jobs are required in economically uncertain times - it also allows for nations to justify the use of large levels of force to deal with situations - i.e. rebels in Chechneya....

Well, you cannot really blame Putin. He is concerned about the U.S. plans of intalling missile defense system in Europe. The big question is why does the U.S. want to do this?. What threat exist in Europe that could justify the presence of such missiles?. Both the European Union and Russia are having the best diplomatic relations since the Cold War, and both never wanted these missile defense systems in European soil. So, against which threat are these missile defense systems intended for?.
In the same way, what would G W Bush reaction be if Russia planned to install Soviet missile defense system in South America or Cuba?. Will such action not arouse alarm in Washington?.
Many people say that Putin cannot be trusted. But many people can never trust Bush either. But Putin is somehow correct in his criticism that America's inconsiderate use of military force is the root cause of destablilization in some regions of the world today, that more nations will soon seek to possess nuclear weapons as they feel that their own security are at stake. Such a situation will lead to nuclear proliferation.

What is going on in Iran is making me very nervous. As time goes on it seems like the problems in the Mid East are getting worse and worse. Iran is not ever going to be allowed to have nuclear anything. That is a fact. But what is the best way to go about handeling that. I have heard that Israel would be the ones probably who will go after Iran first if they continue. I have also heard that some think Israel will use a low yealding nuclear device to blow up the Iranians underground plant. One to make sure it is totally destroyed and two so that Iran thinks twice before striking back. If that happens the Arab world would go nuts. Iran has said Israel should be wiped off the face of the map. A nuke could do that. So what should be done, or what is reasonable for Israel to do in order to protect itself? Wait? Believe a country who hates them and would like to see them destroyed? Hope that Irans nuclear program is for energy. Well, it is in nobodys best interest for them to have nuclear capabilities. But they are not going to stop, eventhough they know what the consiquences of going forward are going to be. I think it is a matter of time until a radical musulm group get its hands on a nuke. The what if's are becomming more and more grim each year.
I have a feeling that someone is just waiting for the US to spread it's self so thin around the world and at the same time some terrible disater, terror or natural to happen here and all hell will break loose. I think Nukes will go down in our history as the begining of the end.

Putin is concerned that we may deploy a missle defense system in europe. I have never trusted him...he is ex KGB. As for the nuclear arms proliferation (N. korea, Iran, Pakistan) yes that is very concerning. The UN has done squat to stop these kind of crazy dictatorships (Or Mullahships) to get nuclear arms. Iran just laughed when the un passed it's latest sanctions. They were so watered down by russia and china (who have huge business ties with iran) that they are a joke...the UN is broke and needs to be scrapped. Just take some comfort that that all the crazies out there know that if a state sponsored nuke ever goes off in america that their country will be ashes..it's called deterence. What scares me more is a terrorist getting a nuke from iran under the table and blowing it in ny harbor. Then Iran would be screaming we didn't know anything about it, they stole it from us. yada yada yada...then we'll have to decide do we nuke them or not...I'm afraid that day is coming unless the islamofacist shrivel up and blow away.

The 1950's everyone was afraid of "The Bomb". There were Bomb Shelters going up in people's backyards and schools held A-Bomb Drills. (The old "Duck and Cover")
But that was when only the U.S. and the Soviet Union had WMD's.
Now many countries have Wmd's. Sooner or later one of these little piss-ant countries will explode one in downtown USA. That will probably start a relatively small nuclear response by the US. After that exchange the world will settle down for another 20 or 30 years--only to repeat itself.

NO. Putin knows we are dealing with some issues here in the states, He just needs to gain a little more patience. He's an intelligent man, he'll figure it out. Sounds to me like he was blowing off some steam. Not that i blame him. Nobody wants a Nuclear War.
To Steelhead: I don't trust him either, doesn't mean i don't respect him.

I'm just waiting to see what the next way we are gonna destroy the planet is.
So far we have global war and the use of nuclear weapons, if that fails the spectre of global warming is going to do it for us.
I just wonder what the 3rd place is gonna be, Avian flu anyone?
But yes the world is getting very complicated, not helped a jot by different political and religious beliefs around our small globe.

Its all just fine, dont you worry none. I just want to assure you that if there were any mistakes made, and Im not saying there were, it would be because those in control didnt think that anyone really understood the idea of multinational politics. I really thought it was "special" how the Russian PM thought it would be well recieved from him to make those inflammatory and trivial comments. I would think that he would look in the mirror before he started runnin his mouth like that he may find himself fresh out of friends and all this stuff in the middle east may no longer be an exercise of who would win if.

Much like my parents learned to hide under desks, and in the 1980's when I watched the day after, it is only news to this generation. That is why you do not see too many people over 30 yelling for the US to bomb Iran...we have already experienced the tension and threats...they are real.
