I have a young lab puppy, and about a week and a half ago i took my pup in to the vet. He was given a distemper shot and also Nemex suspension. two days after the treatment was given, he started developing diarrhea, this lasted for around 3 more days or so, and i did some searching and thought it may just be a side effect. The next day the stools were solid again and i thought things were fine. the day after that it was back to the loose stools, he is straining a lot when he tries to poop, and it seems like small drops just seem to come out, or he sits there and is trying for minutes without anything coming out, I am planning on calling a vet asap, but does anyone have any other advice/recommendations? Is this a side effect? Also i am going to add that the vet i went to didn't mention anything about side effects, or even mention that it might be a possibility or that we should call or anything, so obviously i need to find another ver that actually acts like a professional..... help!

IT's not from the distemper. It's likely the Nemex. All puppies have worms and need to be dewormed on a regular schedule. If the Nemex didn't clear it up fast enough and the puppy got sick again so quick then you can try another dewormer. The next one to try is Evict DS, you buy it in the health vitamin area. Give your puppy the full dosage, don't scrimp. If the worms are the problem then your pup's diarrhea should clear up within 24 hours and go to a solid form. Then, deworm him again in 10 days and do that for 2 more rounds after that. Then, spread it out to every 14 days, do that 4 times, then do once a month for 3 months.
If the Evict DS doesnt' quite do it, there is another product called 8in1 Earliworm. If neither of those work you will have to bring in another sample to the vet. But you can deworm your puppy yourself. What I use is one of those syringes they give you for administering childrens meds to them when they are small. You can find them at a drug store, they may give you one for free at the pharmacy counter if you ask.

I wish you good luck!
