At christmas time during the holidays I weighed 44kg very underweight for a teen my age (15 yrs old) and my height which is 172cm roughly 5ft8/9 or 10. Now I weigh 50kg which is a healthy weigh according to BMI (16.9) but Ive had signs that I overeat sometimes. just now I had a bowl of two wheatabix's with honey couple of grapes and whole milk. after I nabbed without thinking two sweet rolls and ate them like my life depended on it! Im scared like hell, yesterday at a party I ate loads of ice cream, chicken corn on the cobs fries and chocolate etc...its freaking me out a little and its bloody ironic as I use to have a problem with eating now im eating too much!

You say you have had a problem with eating before, which leads me to think that you were undereating. (Whether consciously or just because you are a picky eater, I cannot tell.) Ergo, your body is trying to normalize by making you eat MORE calories than before. This might seem like overeating to you, but ask yourself -- are you underweight naturally, or because your calorie intake is insufficient to maintain a healthy weight? If so, "overeating" is probably your body's natural response to get you to a healthy weight. Sometimes the body does overshoot the mark, though. This is why diets so often fail -- the body gets HUNGRY, the body's hunger overrides the conscious decision to diet (or in your case, a doctor prescribes it) and then the body wants more than it did before, and in large servings. Basically, you're going to have to try to eat healthy and ride out the cravings. Eat as many vegetables and as much fruit as you can, along with whole grains and lean protein. Overeating at a party is not going to make you gain weight, nor is a bowl of cereal. Eat when you're hungry, and eat to satisfy the hunger -- try not to persist past the point of fullness. Good luck, and remember that a certain amount of fat is necessary to sustain essential bodily functions.

You do not have to eat the wrong things to gain weight. Try strength training. This will build muscle, which is denser than fat so will make you weigh more even if you stay roughly the same size. Pigging out will do you no favours. As you are only 15 your doctor should have given you better advice on how to go about gaining weight. Drink 8 glasses of water per day, and eat approx every three hours making sure every meal has fats protein and carbs. For breakfast a bowl of high fibre cereal with full cream milk and chopped banana would be fine, second meal 1/2 ham and salad sandwich and peice of fruit, third meal small bowl of pasta with tuna and tomato based sauce, fourth meal other half of sandwich and peice of fruit and for dinner chicken and veg stirfry served on a small plate.

Junk food is both unhealthy, & addictive.
Switch to healthy foods & drinks, only.
They aren't usually addictive ...

When you eat whole, healthy foods, you naturally eat less, because they are full of fiber that fills you up.

Look. Three meals a day. Largest should be breakfast (break - fast... get it?) Medium lunch, small dinner. Strength exercise three times a week AFTER 15 mins stretching, and 30 mins cardio. You will build muscle while metabolizing the foods in the perfect way. You will grow strong and correct your tiny body.

The doc may have told you that you can afford to put on some weight but did he advise you to 'overeat' to achieve that! Use your discretion!
