I received my state first. The tax acct told me state would come first. I was told they are most likely to be deposited on fridays.

Federal and State Tax Returns come around the same time usually. I mean there might be a 2-3 week difference. If you owe, you will know when you fill out your taxes. Go online to the website you filed your federal taxes and see the status. Like for instance, i do my taxes all by myself too, and i filed my federal and i checked my status and it says : "Status" and underneath it , it says "accepted" and then theres something right next to it that would say "return" and underneath it, it will say "$ ???" However much you will have coming back. I hope you are not confused with what im saying. Good luck!

Consider that you state has fewer returns to process than the Federal Goverment. That is why normally a State refund will show up before a Fed.
To check the status of your Fed refund call 1-829-1954 or go to Where's My Refund at https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp

They are experiencing some update problems so you might want to wait til after 02/12 to use these systems

You're dealing with 2 separate tax returns to 2 separate taxing authorities. There's no way to say which will come first.

If you filed your Federal return already, how could you not know if you owe anything?

The truth is if you have outstanding Federal student loans, they may keep your federal refund to pay unpaid balances due. Or if you owe unpaid child support, they may keep it then also.
