Because it is.
Even when wars were fought over territory or other principles such as economics or slavery, each side tended to call upon God to justify their causes.
God and religion belong in our hearts, homes, and churches...not in our public policy.
Ever.
I think God/Allah/Jehova would agree with that.
I'm sure He/She/It is just as tired of all the bloodshed as we are.

Religion is certainly NOT the root of most wars. A few examples:
Napoleonic Wars were about empire building and tyranny
American Revolution was a political rebellion.
American Civil War was about states rights and economic power.
The wars against Native Americans were about real estate.
WWI & WWII were about politics and oil and people trying to take over the world.
Viet Nam was about Communism
The Iraq War is about empire building and oil.
One could go on. Wars are usually about economic wealth and territory and power. People seldom, if ever, go to war over religion.

It's not the root of the wars, but has always been a good excuse for them. Earlier in history classes we were studying that for every war there is a reason and a cause and that's usually 2 totally different things.

The fact that religion is NOT the cause of all wars, is a symptom of ignorance of history.
Evil men who seek World domination are the cause of all wars. And even if they PRey on religion to gain majority power, they almost always prove their is no relgious beliefs in their bones.
Greed, Power, wealth, THE LOVE of Money, these are the causes of War.

Not at all, you are mixing the pretext for wars with the cause. The root of most wars is economics, and desire to get more land, money, resources. Religion is used as a pretext to war, to have a pretty slogan to go and die for (for soldiers and populace who will not enrich themselves).

People are afraid. Religion empowers them. They get to play god and destroy others.
Without religion to teach people they are better than those awful sinners who deserve to die over there for not being PERFECT, how could they have wars?
People are gullible and believe anything the preachers say, as long as it includes, IF YOU DON'T, YOU'LL BURN IN HELL FOREVER!
Nothing scares people so badly as eternal torment for finite sins.

Because of the heard mentality in humans. Powerful leaders corrupt the message of the bible, and then use it to start wars, while hanging hell over the head of anyone who goes against them.
