Interesting. I asked the same question in another form just a few days ago. Must be a standard question on philosophy exams. I concluded that it was genocide although some people thought that it was self-righteousness, racism, intolerance, greed, ambition, ignorance, stupidity, lust, etc.
Thus I emphasized the act while they emphasized the contributing emotions. I still think I am right since every one is tempted to hurt another person at times but our humanity is defined by how we control such urges.
For that reason, I abhor cruelty to animals although it is common in Puerto Rico where I have lived since people say that other people have such problems that who cares about what happens to animals? Some of the same people are political activists and even care very much about saving the environment.
So what is the big deal? The fact is that a person who mistreats an animal is training to mistreat humans later. If such a person is a bully in school, and goes unpunished; he is liable to kill his wife later since he has never been prevented from developing his killer instincts.
Actions are worth more than words for good or evil.

Whatever is not in fashion at the time....slavery is now considered evil but not so a few hundred years ago, then it was OK. Some things we do and accept today will probably be considered evil in the future .....like driving a car or going in an aeroplane. Evil is relative to the observer.

I think true Evil is the deliberate premeditated annihilation and destruction of another human being. Totally leaving them no hope for any future happiness or fulfilment or any role whatsoever in any future society. If you removed all thee human beings from the planet would there still be evil?? I don't think so. I believe it is a concept and a reality that is only expressed by human beings.

to me the true definition of evil is a person devoid of humanity, someone with no empathy thought or care for the life of others, with a sociopath personality and lack of love and or nurture in the formative years . i also have to say these people are created by society and environment. While i define them as evil i consider them a creation ,blaming an outside force for someones actions is to me not accepting the responsibility for the actions of the individual.

I don't think that there is any such thing as a purely good or a purely evil deed.
Nobody ever acts entirely for the best (even seemingly selfless acts offer a sense of fulfillment and magnanimity); similarly, no-one ever really does anything out of singularly evil intentions. Even Pol Pot thought he was acting for the best.
So in answer, I don't think that you can define pure evil, although there are predominately evil acts.

hmmmmm that's a hard one to answer.......to define true evil would mean that we all have to agree on a definition.... and since that is near impossible to do as we all think differently and have different views i doubt we will ever really know.
is a paedophile true evil??? in some countries of the world they marry their kids of at 8 years old ...does this then make them true evil ??
are people who murder true evil or just very ill... and iff they are ill does this make them evil?
it does seem that religion is blamed on much of the bad that goes on in the world..... but there are thousands of faiths,
is a terrorist a terrorist or freedom fighter.... fighting for how beliefs abd in turn being true to his faith.....
true evil...... i dont think we will ever know

Evil is the opposit of good, and is anything which is destructive more than it is constructive along any of the various dynamics of life. A thing which does more destruction than construction is evil from the viewpoint of the individual, the future, group, species, life, or matter, energy, space and time that it destroys.(SOS,Bk.2.p.34)

Sociopathy. When one has no concern for the effects of one's actions on other people, whether that be theft, assault, rape, pedophilia, serial killing, mass murder or anything else.
The worst thing is that while sociopathy is normally a chemical abnormality, it can be caused by brainwashing, either through abuse (children who molest become molestors) or indoctrination (the military and religion).
By the way, a sociopath is someone who kills and doesn't care. A psychopath is someone who kills and _enjoys_ it.
