Because... erm... it was his will and he works in mysterious ways?

TRUST me, that's the kind of vague babble you're going to get from the Christians. The default for these kinds of questions is "his will... mysterious ways".

You would need to understand the concept of a perfectly holy and righteous being. Such a being would hate all sin and would be bound by the being's perfectly just nature to render judgment for the unjust. Just as we expect justice in this world, albeit imperfect at times, so does this being, God. While it is hard to hear, there are none righteous in God's eyes, even the "innocent children".

You need to do some careful study of the attributes of God to digest these hard sayings. Start with some basic introductions to theology and go from there.

who has said that GOD is Unreliable? I feel sorry for them .Yes one should answer for their deeds/sins committed by them.
Let me try and explain one philosophy .It is said that you reap what you sow am I correct ? which means any person in any Field will generally die in the same profession .OK so If I am an HIV patient it is not my to be born child's mistake but you see it is the fate of the child as he/ it is the one which picks its parents to clear its due of its last incarnation.By making the parents suffer for feeling for their children by seeing them suffer and spend huge amounts of money by taking loans from banks to clear all due to the hospital & banks etc for which they have to suffer and work more no of hours .So that is how & why the innosent Egyptian children had cleared their dues by sacrifising their lives for their parents and making them suffer the loss of their children for the refusal to release the Israelites.that is why he killed the children to teach the them to feel the pain and loss to the parents who in their previous life have done some thing like this. So always be carefull in what ever you say or do as you will have to pay back one time or the other in this life it self.

If you think of "God" as being unreliable and inconsistent, you were probably given the wrong idea of "God" in the first place. The only thing reliably consistent about God's work and God's nature is both the good and bad alike of this world.

God is limitless and good, so he's infinitely good and infinitely loving. which potential He *ought to* act out of compassion, i imagine it really is our perfect determination - what did our existence demonstrate, that we come to a call to love God or love sin? A unmarried act, for most folk, received't tip the scales. For that to ensue, that unmarried act may ought to very obviously demonstrate our perfect, deep-down determination between God and sin. i wish that solutions your question. i'm very hesitant to apply the time period "subjective" in an outstanding gentle in replying, so i'm afraid i'd were a lot less sparkling. i do not prefer to condone moral relativism - the conception that not something is "black and white" even as it contains morality. There *are* absolute good and evil. actually, we are able to not communicate about God "weighing out" sins except He has a commonplace, absolute weight (absolute good) on the different fringe of the size!

god is unreliable is a matter of opinion ,your opinion i cant debate what you feel
inconsistant again you offer a delusioned premise rebutted of your own opinion ,
recall other times you haver pointed out the flood ,gomora/soddom etc ,killing the cghildren first born was the result of diatry requirments of the egyptians who feed the first born first they got sick and died from bad stored grain ,or some other hygene problem ,you get it wrong because as the writers of the words got it wrong ,by thinking god to be cause of causes
god is the god of life ,living you as they err because you see god as a judge
god is not judge
hear and listen ,know your god gives life gives grace
man puts reasoning [flawed reasoning based on a faulse point that god judges
god dont judge ,god gives you life ,he gave it to you ,he didnt take irt from anyone ,nature does that when men built in the wtrong place or the wrong time ,it rains this is nature [not god] god gives not takes
then there is the alternative vieuw point god gives and giod takes away ,think we are spirits incarnate because we rejected god ,or as spirits choose to incarnate to experiment with freewill ,freethinking ,many reasons saw us sewn into skin
innocent children or guilty is not ours to judge mwe as spirits are as they are spirits ,when we return home are we punnished or welcomed by the god of love
think was gohmorra being punished oor rewarded ,comming home to god can be hell for those in denial that god loves man all alike all equal ,all getting the same wage [grace] because our god dont judge ,who is really to blame for the natures of men is man ,who greates 10 laws then creates a few more then creates many more is man
jesus said we are beyiond the law
gods rules are 2 love god
love neighbour
not to judge thats d-evil,not god
you wrong god with convinccing lies god dont judge
man does
the books were writen by men just as you and me ,god didnt say men said ,even the jews got it wrong ,god is love ,not war not death but life
love that sustain all life to live
you wrong god as they wronged god before you ,
god is love live with it
look beneath the words and see god is love
your words cant decieve god only men.

I cannot answer this question because your mind is already made up when you worded your question with "God is unreliable and inconsistent". You must have faith and rely in him. Doubt and "unreliability" is brought on by wavering faith and Satan's influence.

why are people so filled with urban legends about Gods and the like isn't reality good enough or is the blunt truth too much for our feeble minds for deal with , without hiding beneath fantasies and lies to pad the impact and enable us to endure the pain.

because for one thing he doesn't exist, in the sense that we would call real or extant,(thats my opinion) and two....well, is there any self respecting historian out there who's proven that the things that happen in the bible are true? so, the question is, were the children actually killed and if they were, whom, if not God, did it?

God is every one of us including you, then how can he be unreliable and inconsistent. we all have to pay for what we have done.
