I don't remember # of verse, but this one shows how God is merciful:
"If He (God) punishes each of you for wrong doings, He will not leave a living soul on it (earth)". It means that God gives us time to repent and do good again.
This Hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) if followed by all, we will be in peace:
"Wish for yourself what you wish for others".
