Two days ago I recovered a scared, starved, dehydrated puppy female puppy from underneath my horse trailer. She is approximately 2-4 months old of an unknown breed (Image is located at http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v702/Insane_Asylum/7.jpg). She has been brought up to a normal eating schedule (Started off slow due to a shrunken stomach) and she has been rehydrated. However, she is now frequently urinating, about every 45 minutes or so. Is this normal with puppies recovering from dehydration or should I be worried? Thanks. :D

Oh, her name is Maybelline and I'm keeping her. No pound for this pup.

I only have serious experience in felines, really. I know that when a kitten is recovering from dehydration, they kick into a "Urination overtime" sort of thing. I just wanted to make sure it was the same for her. She DOES NOT have trouble urinating, she doesn't squat without producing something, she doesn't seem in pain, it seems to be the right color and so on. Just wanted to make sure. :)

you are a saint. if she is eating and drinking, peeing frequently is normal for pups. i would worry if she wasn't peeing. it seems like my pups pee everytime they are moving around. this dog will prob be the best dog you've ever owed. rescued dogs just seem to know and show their appreciation to you for giving them a hand up!! many rewards are in your future!!

Frequent urination is really a good thing for any puppy. If it continues however, I would have her checked for a urinary tract infection, which may have been caused by the dehydration. Easy to cure, and if she is going that much, you should be able to get a urine spec. easy and bring it to the vet. I have learned over the years, that female pups/dogs are much more prone to these infections than males. A week of anti-biotics and lots of water , and you're good to go. By the way- you are a very good person to keep this pup, be concerned about her and she sounds like she is very, very lucky to get you for a "parent". Wish there were more people like you! K-

Sounds like your rescue-pup is doing very well, please make sure to get her to the vet and get a general check-up and get her started on flea/tick medicine and heartworm protection (and when she's old enough get her spayed). My heart goes out to you for saving her. I worked as a vet tech for a while when going through EMT school and adopted a 3 wk old female who had been dumped (along with the rest of her litter) and she is the "healthiest prettiest pooch I've ever seen" according to the vet (she's now 1 1/2 yrs old). I can't tell very well from your picture, but I see a mole/wart on the left side of her face, and if there is one on the other side, and the bottom of her chin, she may have some pit-bull in her (in which case you are lucky indeed! My Tater's an American Pit Bull Terrier). I've done a LOT of research on the breed since I found out I have one, and they're the best dog out there. Please feel free to contact me for more info on the breed if that's what she is, I'd be happy to dispel some myths and share some info about raising a healthy happy pittie (they DO require some special care and some special training for the owner, lol).

Yeah, she sounds fine. If she is going every 45 minutes or so, its normal. When you have a puppy, they use the bathroom every 30-45 minutes anyways. If shes not limping, and she seems physically okay, and no pain then shes okay. Good luck! At least she has a good home now! :)

Couldn't get access to your site so can't help you with the breed.
But I can tell you that urinating every 45 mins is actually very good for a pup it can be every 20 mins which can drive any loving mum or dad to distruction.
Good on you for adopting her. Maybelline is a very cute name!!

She may have a urinary tract infection from having been dehydrated. Young puppies have to pee frequently, but this sounds as if a vet needs to check it out.

Bless your heart for keeping her and good luck with your new doggie.

Don't worry yet. She is still recovering. Also, she's still a baby. Give her some time and in a couple months start not only doing a feeding schedule but watch her water intake. Make sure she is hydrated but don't let her overdo it.

Sometimes it is good-- other times though if you think the pup is drinking too much intake of water may have diabetes --I would take her in to the vet and have them check her out. Way to go on saving the pup.

what a little cutie! am so glad that you could save her
she probably was a little dehydrated and maybe her
kidneys are working on overtime but she should level
off as she relaxes and gets used to you (she has pro
bably been extra nervous too) I think she will be one of
those pretty brown dogs with black points (maybe some
shepherd - lab - ?)
