Set a goal, then start putting it away. Make it hard to get to. CDs, mutual funds, stocks. This let's you avoid impulse buys. If you have money laying around, it'll disappear quickly. Avoid putting on debt on your credit card. Either reduce you credit card limit (not sure if banks even let you do that), or start using bank Visa cards only.

Look at what you spend your money on. What can you do without? Whatever you can and the more you can, take that money and set it aside, savings account would be good temporarily until you have enough to either invest or pay off loans. Always be on time to pay your bills to avoid late fees. Never bounce a check as the fees are very high. Rid yourself of high interest credit card bills. Only change what you can afford to pay off when the bill comes in. Have a cell phone with free long distance calling? Do you really need long distance calling service on your house phone? The ways to save money are too numerous to mention, good luck!

If you are talking about food, the best way is to cook yourself and cook in bulk and freeze in individual portions.

Other ways is turn the heating down, turn out the lights when not in use - I have one man living with me who seems to need 5 lights on just to go to the bathroom and back. Then he says he does not know where the switches are.) Use the washing machine at night, and avoid using a dryer. You could get electric rails for drying washing in winter. There are loads of ways of saving money
