Before you contact any breeders, get his health tested. A general physical plus OFA/BAER and CERF certification at the very least. You should also see if your specific breed is predisposed to any other genetic conditions that can be tested for. He should conform to the breed standard and also have a sound temperment.
Be very careful who you agree to stud him out to. Take the time to research them and make sure they are breeding not to make a profit, but for the betterment of the breed.
Getting involved in dog breeding needs to be done for the right reasons and only after lots of reading and learning.

Why? Why would you breed him? Just because he is "papered"? Do you not know that just about ANY dog can be papered? Does this make every dog you meet proper to be bred? NO!!
Neuter your dog yesterday. You have no reason to breed.
Now, if you want to enter him in AKC Conformation events and show him until he receives his championship, and then maybe some titles in Obedience to show his good nature and manners, and then get his passed in OFA/CERF and up to FOUR other health checks, then, MAYBE, he would be considered a good candidate for breeding. Until all of that, AND THEN SOME, do not breed your dog!!!!
No reputable breeder would EVER allow your dog to stud with one of their females until he is considered a proper stud per the AKC standards.
PLEASE neuter your dog. You will be saving a lot of hassle for another dog, as well as the puppies who may or may not find forever homes.

Papers don't mean anything. When breeding you have to do it for the quality of the dog and the Champion bloodline not for money purposes like some backyard breeders do. Everyone wants to breed there dogs but don't think of the consequences of it. My dogs are spayed and neutered . I did the right thing. There are too many unwanted pups in the world now. When you get a pet that is supposed to be for friendship and your pal. At least that is what I got my babies for.

I whole-heartedly agree with Bonsylar, breeding is a little bit out of control. There are too many people out there who want to try to make quick money breeding, and on a side note, most don't. There are too many pets in shelters that need homes, and to address another common misconception, there are just as many pure-breds in shelters as there are "mutts." This is a VERY big problem with my personal favorite breed (the only dog, in my opinion, lol) the American Pit Bull Terrier....too many people try to make a quick buck off of breeding them in their back yards, and ultimately just contribute to the HUGE problem of dog-fighting (making an average of $75 a pup in my area, which doesn't even begin to cover the expense of legitamately breeding and caring for the mother and pups). Have your rat terrier nuetered and you'll find he's much happier and you'll have fewer problems with him, and you'll be able to enjoy his companionship for many more years. I wouldn't consider breeding unless your dog has a long champion bloodline and has placed very well at several dog shows.

I don't know but "askdapro" is clearly not a pro. So don't listen to him, but do look into studding him out. I had a rat terrier and loved him for 17 years, wonderful dogs.

AKC registration papers are no guarantee of a dog that is breeding quality. Papers from any other organization are worthless.
If you are serious, go to AKC dog shows and start talking to the people who are into your breed. Learn from them what you need to do.

No dog should be bred until it has all its health checks: Hips, eyes, knees, etc.
No reputatable breeder will allow you to use your make to breed their female until your dog is probem to be one of the top specimens of his breed by showing him against other examples of his breed and having him win a championship.
Anyone who would let you breed their female to your unproven male is a backyard breeder.
Neuter your dog.
