Thanks all for your thoughtful answer.
The question is hypothetical. But I just wondered what one might do in those awful circumstances....Goodness knows how I can choose a BA.....

That is the hardest question any parent can deal with. the love inside a parent learns to accept all its childs faults and giving your child to the police to be put away for life would kill most parents. The terror that the parent feels mustbe the worst imaginable. You have loved this child all your life..you have cared for it..it has done wrong. No....I could not possibly give my child to the police. I would find the best lawyer that I could to help him. I would ask the lawyer if my child needs pyschiatric treatment and if so where could I obtain it. I would die a thousand deaths inside at what my child has done. Parents can't be blamed for what their children do when they go astray..think of the mothers of all these murderers. I don't believe for one moment the parents are all bad sometimes its bad company that does it. Sometimes its an accident...Sometimes circumstances.Whatever it is I would be terrified for my son...for what he did and what his punishment was to be. This must be the hardest question that any parent has to ask themselves. If it has really happened just pray that God helps you out of this terrible horrific tragedy. I too would not want to live if this ever happened. the torment in my mind would be terrific and I could not live with it.

Oh my god - what a dreadful thought. I have a son
and a daughter and I dote on both of them..The very
though of my son committing a crime like that sends
shivers down my spine.
I at first would probably be in denial. Not accepting that
this boy that I gave birth to and raised the only way I
know (and that is to respect and care for others) could
actually murder another human being.
BUT - the only way to carry on his to tell him you love
him you will be there for him and he must turn himself
in. Circumstances play a big part. Was it a tragic
accident. Was drink involved - had she been taunting
him etc.. Whatever - if he took someones life, someones
daughter - he would have to pay for what he did.
I probably would as well because I would not want to
live if something like that happened.

I'm not a mother but I would have to think of the other parents' feelings. I would encourage my child to confess to the police, to do the right thing - I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing what I know and would probably have to go to the police myself. It's what I would expect of others.

I do have an only son . . . And, yes, I would report him to the police. More than that...I would have a long, loving, caring talk with him and I would go down to the police station with him as support of him turning himself in.

Hurt is hurt, wrong is wrong . . . yet family can still be there to be a support to a loved one while they are being tried for a crime and face the decision of the court.

I would say to not get involved. That is the best advice.
If he involved you, then you have a decision to make.
You already know the prospects of both decisions.
You just have to make a choice.
Tell on your OWN son and get no help from anybody,
except your son in prison?
or deny it and still have your son.

I say to figure out how to keep it a secret like you were never involved in the matter and don't know anything.
That will keep you from being an accessory. Then, never say a word until you get a lawyer.
Don't go blabbing ANYTHING.

Who the hell on this Q&A is going to help you when you get old and have to pay the bills? Your son might.

Report to police. A parents' duty is to teach children right from wrong. How is it any different than if a child lies, or cheats??? You have to follow up and punish the child accordingly. In this case, you cannot punish accordingly on your own.

I would probably freak out and end up having a nervous break down, more and likly I would have him turn himself into the police with that little extra push from me and also get him a good lawyer

Wow...this is a really good question.
I think that if i werent to tell the police it would make me a bad mother. Even though telling them would make me feel like one anyways. It's all in the example you set i guess.

You don't want to have to live with the guilt forever.
