Depends. If it's like the suburbs then it's not that big of a deal It's dumb to do that in an industrial or business type area.

I've been doing it for the past ten years and I intend to do it for the rest of my life. It's 'weird' in the sense of extremely uncommon, but it's not unhealthy or dangerous or even cold, it's not 'weird' in the sense of crazy or stupid.
You do not get parasites from walking barefoot; foot fungus grows best in dark, warm and damp places, you pick it up in a locker room but if you keep your foot bare it won't take hold, only if you stuff your foot in a close shoe it will. Hookworm is pretty much gone from the Southern US since modern plumbing replaced the outhouses and never was a problem in cooler climates. Other worms you pick up by ingestion so as long as you don't lick your feet and cook your meat, you're fine. Ringworm is a fungus, see above.
Glass and such isn't a danger to tough feet, I never bother to divert my step when I see broken glass and I get a tiny splinter *maybe* once a year, never had a cut. Even brambles and rose bushes are no challenge to a tough foot.
All kinds of other infections, you're far more at risk from all the things commonly touched by hand like shopping cart handles, doorknobs, railings, etc, for while our skin is made to keep pathogens out, we touch our food and our faces with our hands, making it far more likely to transfer the bacteria that are on our hands to a place where they can enter our body than anything that may be on our feet.
Smell? Bare feet don't smell, it's not the sweat you're smelling but the product of bacteria breaking down that sweat in anearobe circumstance -with lack of oxygen. Those conditions don't exist on the bare skin.
People in the US are biased against bare feet because so many stores have signs 'no shoes, no shirts, no service' and often they even blame the Health Department. Of course people reason that if the Health Department has a rule against bare feet it must be unsanitary. However this isn't true, the Health Department does NOT have any rules against bare feet, regardless of whether there's food served or what. Nor do insurance companies require or even recommend footwear for customers. Nor is it against the law to drive barefoot. These is persistants MYTHS that have done great harm to public opinion of bare feet in the US... here in Europe most people believe it's healthy, even though most people still won't do it because it's unfashionable or they are just so used to shoes they're afraid every small pebble will be uncomfortable, and they don't want to go through the trouble to toughen up their feet. Only rarely do I meet someone on this side of the ocean who thinks it's dangerous or unsanitary.

I think its normal a lot of people do that especially near the beach. Its not exactly the best thing to do because outside in the street and sidewalks its very rough walking and there is often glass on the ground. But I am positive that just walking around barefoot isnt some mental defect or abnormality.

It depends on what you mean by public. I love to go barefoot in when it is warm outside. When I was a kid, my mother had to make me wear shoes outside in the summers. I love the feeling of grass under my bare feet, its wonderful. But, I don't go barefoot to a restaurant or a store. The beach is a public place, but I don't see anything weird about seeing someone barefoot there.

If we (who are used to protecting our feet with footwear) are the judge, then we can say that it is not normal. However, it could be that they don't have money to buy shoes? In my country though, there is a large (very large) group of faithful believers in the Black Nazarene (Jesus Christ carrying the heavy cross), who celebrate his feastday in January. They come from very, very far places, walking barefoot until the reach the Church where the Black Nazarene is enshrined. The they return to their respective distant homes, still barefooted, after a gruelling, all-day procession in honor of the Black Nazarene.

In reflexology .rubbing the bottom of your feet is very good for a person to do,walking barefoot massages the bottom of the feet when you walk, it stimulates the areas of the body that correlates to the places on the feet that's stimulated, and so people or healthier who go barefooted, Just because your an idiot doesn't mean everyone is supposed to be one.,so your the weirdo not me.Your the one to disregard nature.so go live your stupid little life, but don't tell me what to do. you weirdo..Cherokee will walk barefoot any ole damn time we want without you white eyes permission. You have taken political correctness to the far degree. You all talk of freedom, but your taking it away with your stupid attitudes

Not normal or weird -- just UNSAFE. What if you step on broken glass or a nail? A friend got a splinter in her foot for walking onto her deck barefoot.

Barefooted is good for your feet.
What is weird about it?
If it is not in a restaurant who cares.
In my native culture it is good to let your feet stay in touch with the living mother.
Weird? No... you must have a hate of feet thing going on

Unless you are at the beach, at an outdoor music festival or camping.... shoes are widely accepted and in many cases required in public. Not weird, but not normal..... buy flip flops and be on the safe side.
