I normally don't write long passages but I have to say this. Everyone makes mistakes but some Christians single people out as so-called Christians when they don't live up to the biblical standards. I don't know anyone who does. I asked a question earlier about making judgments vs. opinions. Actually, I think people thought I meant the non-believers' comments about Christians. To tell you the truth I see it more commonly among Christians speaking about other Christians. I am far from perfect but at least I realize that. That is why I appreciate so that my Savior loves me and everyone despite our shortcomings. And I work on loving everyone as He does daily. That's hard sometimes I'll admit, but when Christians lose their focus, I would never call them a so-called Christian. Their salvation does not come from me. But if you are a Christian that feels this way, how do you define a so-called Christian?

It sounds awfully close to judging to me. Thank you all for your opinions.

I know what you mean there are some Christians that are not so acting like Christians. Me, sometimes I also felt that way. I don't call unfaithful Christians "so-called Christians" they're still Christians they're not just faithful, but i don't call them that way. I define unfaithful Christians as Christians who have little faith.

Not one person today lives up to biblical standards, so, our shortcomings are a given. I die daily....I sin daily because as Paul said, what I will not to do, that I do and what I will to do, that I don't do. So, every day is a new start, a new opportunity to be pleasing to the Lord. A new day to serve Him and not myself. A new day to grow stronger in faith and to draw nearer to God and Him to me. Alas, I am weak and so, I die daily.
The way I see it "so-called Christians," as you put it, are Christian in name only. They confess with their mouth, but their heart is far from Him. They pick and choose what they wish to believe. They follow the world as to not offend. They don't have the Holy Spirit and that is clear by their fruit. They don't understand scripture because they believe the blinded. They are too lazy to read His word and so they're led by the lost. Their faith is with men, not with Christ. They pervert the Word and allow others to do the same.
They know He is Love, but don't know His wrath. They know that He is Merciful, but don't know He's Jealous. They know that He is the Judge, but don't know that He commanded us to righteously judge are brothers and sisters...To keep each other moving forward in His truth and light. To help each other grow and strengthen in faith. To correct when we need correction. To guide and lead the lost and not to appease. To love God and not the world.
They don't know because they are not His. That is the definition of a "so-called" Christian. The Word speaks on the subject often. The truth is given through the Holy Spirit, which resides in a true believer in Christ. If they were true, they would know truth, but they don't.

Have you ever seen my answers and questions? Because if you have you would know I can get pretty rough with the Christians. I hold no-one else to the words of Christ because they have not accepted them. While I may not have addressed this specific issue, I have most certainly called them on numerous others. Edit @ Wise Uncle Sol - I have seen atheists repudiate others on here, quite a few times.

Most Christians are so called-Christians, they ignore the part of the bible that doesn't benefit them and only listen to ones that does. Sloath and gluttony reign in america and yet we are a very christian nation. Nobody cares about sloath and gluttony though.. no one disses on the fat guys and call em sinful but we sure we hell diss on the gays. I define a so called Christian, only listening to parts of the bible that would benefit himself and ignore ones that he or she is doing so much they no longer even consider it to be sin even though the bible says it is.

well i have to agree to a point. i think alot of people have this problem not just christians. all i know though is from my point of view as a christian is a so called christian to me is someone who who just calls themselves a christian but really isn't. they say it just so they can get others to listen to them when they have something bad to say about someone else, christian or not. to me thats just plain wrong. you don't go around calling yourself a christian if all your going to do is use it to hurt others. but as a christian i can say that i believe the Word of God and he says we are not to judge others or condem others because we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. we all need to keep this in mind.

Well, I definately think people can misuse that term, like if they are being judgmental or if they don't really know the life of the person they are talking about, or just being critical.

Christians judge other Christians as "so-called-Christians" to teach other Christians that judging people is wrong.
(spoof off of Pres. Kenedy's words on capital punishment).

Being a Christian means trying to abide by the teachings of Christ. This means that one can have honest failings in the quest to follow His teachings, but as long as they are honestly trying to abide by His teachings, then they are Christians.
So-called Christians are those people who pick and choose which of the teachings of Christ they wish to abide by, and discord the rest because they find them to be inconvenient for living the life they wish to live. They're failings are not honest because they are purposeful.
Unless one tries to abide by all of the teachings of Christ, then they can't be considered Christians, not truly. It's like someone saying that they are a vegetarian because they only eat meat every other Thursday.

Because Christians have this weird "holier than thou" complex, that doesn't go away when they're around fellow Christians.
That's why there are so many denominations of Christianity.
