whenever i get bored i always find myself drawing or writing on something... for the past year i've been carving in my arm (which is more entertaining than writing on paper and such)...with my pencil and even after i scrub my arm the lead from the pencil is still visible and it seems to have soaked into my flesh....is this bad for me or not??

Materials pencils are made of today are safe to eat if you want to, so it's not going to poison you. BUT you could open yourself up to infections on your skin where you tear it, such as staph. Staph infections are very easy to get and can really do a number on you. Google the term and read up on it.

But I'm sure you're more wondering if you have a 'mental disorder' by doing this. I'd say no, not really. You could develope one if you obsess over the behavior but I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you are bored. The effect on your skin is fascinating, I'm sure - the color changes as blood is pushed around, let out, and the skin is stretched and manipulated. Perhaps you need some art classes or a part time job at a butcher shop. You may be a blossoming surgeon, someone who can do a lot of good through your observation/attention to detail of how human tissue reacts to different types of pressure. Sure, you are different. Everyone is different. But this kind of symptom could be a sign of a very excellent talent emerging, not necessarily a bad thing at all.

Pencils are not made from lead. However, carving yourself when you're bored??? hhhmmm, you might want to try scrap booking, gardening, exercising, singing, doing laundry, or SOMETHING. Lead or not, you can cause damage to yourself if you get an infection a scar or any number of things that could result from this. There are plenty of things to prevent bordom. I envy your free time! I know, you can come see me, I'll keep you busy!!!

Lets get one thing clear, there is NO LEAD in a lead pencil! Its made from carbon. That said you can still get blood poisoning from it. Use paper, its less damaging. You might also want to consider why you self mutilate in this way (yes its a form of self mutilation), perhaps talk to a counselor

Yes it could be - you could give yourself blood poisoning - which you could die from - so what do you think - could it be bad for you ?

Get another hobby like masturbation - that's great for relieving strees, which sounds like the reason why you're carving in your arm in the first place !

you might not be so bored if you got a job, also with a job you could afford paper, and thats ends your problem. Lead poisoning is not good.
