Non of these 3. Bangkok is overcrowded, smelly and a place you maybe like the first 2 days. Chiang Mai is ok, but far from beaches and Ko Samui is expensive. Koh Chang is good, not crowdy, Kanchanaburi area have lots to see and do. Koh Tao is super also. Ranong and the beaches south from here is good, and you can always take a small boat to Myanmar for some shopping. Use Bangkok for the last 2-3 days for shopping and so. But its up to you what you mean as a best place for vacation. I, personally like unspoiled areas without to many tourists.

Sure Bangkok is a smelly city but I love it all the same. Some people never venture far in BKK except for tourist locations. There is great shopping and its interesting to go the parts of town (say across the Chao Praya river) where you see few westerners. A great place to take photos and watch the world go by in a very diff way. There are tons of good eats and good nite spots too.

Chiang Mai is close to lots of beautiful scenery and natural beauty. You can go up to Pai or Mae Hong Song to forget about the world. Thailand is more than beaches.

Koh Samui is a bit overdone but I still have fun there. Chaweng beach is overcrowded but fun at night with great food. You can travel to many resorts that have awesome quiet beaches but they are very expensive. The majority of the populace is centered around Chaweng beach. I take a motorbike to a little unused beach to watch the sunset and no one is there. They say they want unspoiled areas but when there is no restroom or shower they don't come. All talk except for the smelly types who live like homeless.

Go to Thailand and enjoy. There is always a diff place for others. You have a whole life...see all u can.

It all depends what kind of vacations you like. Bangkok is a very populated and polluted city. Chiang Mai is located in the northern part of Thailand (Golden Triangle). It is a very popular tourist destination located in mountains and has great traditional culture attractions. Ko Samui is an island located in the Western part of the Siam Gulf. It is a great place to relax with sun, sand and sea.

Your pick!

Hope it can help you!

Hi, each place has its own merits. Mar being a hot time, I will say to head to Chiangmai where it is always cooler than the others. You can experience hill resorts, jungle trekking, hilltribe village visit, elephant camp, river rafting etc. All at cooler temperature than in Bangkok or Ko Samui.

If hot does not bother you, then it will be shopping and sightseeing in Bangkok, or beaches and beaches in Ko Samui.

You can email me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com if you like to get more info.

Happy holidays.

If you want beaches and babes and a few night clubs then Samui...if you want to do jungle trek, cheap food and sleeps, friendly people then try chaing mai..finally if you want heavy pollution, chaos, tuk tuk drivers trying to rip you off then Bangkok.

I think if you want a good answer, you should be more specific.. in that the 3 locales chosen represent three distinct areas.. There are better and more exotic, enjoyable, interesting locales than all the ones you mentioned...
