When we were married, she paid to have a catholic monk pray for us (and my stubborn atheist soul) every day for like three years. A year later, we are divorced ... but I bet the monk still prays for me. Should I call him up and tell him that the marriage didn't work out? Or that he should have prayed harder? Isn't that that craziest present you have ever heard of?

Call him up and tell him that there's something wrong with his prayer system, and that he might need to try a different technique ... because obviously they didn't do the trick. :) I just say this because I love to point it out to believers when their prayers aren't answered.

So what! she is a fanatic, who truly has you and her daughter's best interest at heart. After all she did put her most prized possession (not that people can ever be owned but you get the drift) in your hands. If you don't want the monk to pray for you I could use any help I can get even if I am not Catholic. I think you need to forget the whole thing and get on with your life.

No. Leave the guy praying for you. Maybe that is why your life took a different path than the one you thought you would be on. Besides, if he is still praying for your 'happy marriage' and really believes in what he is doing, then you could possibly cause harm. And who needs more negativity floating around the Universe. Let praying monks pray. Besides becoming enlightened, what else gives them joy?

How about starting up off with a small present like Jewerly or something perchance some earrings and then making up some IOU like IOU a rubdown ( come on women human beings loved to be pampered yet they LOVE being pampered by potential of the boys they love the most) going out for a blinding dinner and seeing the action picture she needs to work out then leaving the subsequent morning to a mattress and breakfast the position interior the room on the mattress there'll be rose petals in each single position and some fantastic white candles lit...

Last I knew this practice in the Catholic church had been stopped.

It used to be very common for any Catholic in leadership to take payment to pray for someone, to either convert, or get into heaven out of pergatory, and yes, even to be buried in a Catholic cemetary, if you could no longer afford the payments, the body was dug up and you had to find non catholic space to rebury the body.

Again, this practice has not been used commonly for the past 20 years or more. More than likely, your mother in law was just telling you she paid for this service.

Relax, only God can work on your heart, and if you are working very hard at keeping him out when he invites you to be his, he will eventually give you what you ask, and give you over entirely to your own thoughts and desires. For further explanation of this process, please just for fun, read the new testament book of acts and it will explain exactly what you are feeling.

I'd have to wonder about a monk--or anyone else--that had to be paid to pray for someone. And you can pray for yourself......for FREE! I wouldn't bother calling the monk...maybe you could pray for him. Sounds like he might need it.

Prayer does not always work as you think it will. If he prayed for you to be happy, perhaps it will turn out that you will be happier apart. Don't bother calling just to be disrespectful. If you don't like your ex, that's one thing - don't take it out on the poor priest who is just doing his job.

Peace!

That's just strange of your mother-in-law. Yeah, if you have the guy's address or telephone number, contact him and see what he says. It's bound to be hilarious.

I bet though, people who are *paid* to pray for someone don't actually do it. Ask him what sort of Christian he is that takes money to say prayers for people.

The Lord works in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform. It doesn't sound like your too torn up about the divorce.

She paid him to cause her daughter to dump your non-believing self. It worked, she gave him a $1000 bonus.
Divorce sucks though, so sorry that happened to you.
