My enlistment in the Air National Guard is up in August. If there is no stop loss in effect, can they send me on a deployment that will go past the end of my enlistment date without me reenlisting? I guess that they can do anything they want, but it isnt a deployment to Iraq, but somewhere in the desert. Do you think they guard will do that?

Things are changing but I think the farthest they will go is the reserves because at least they are full soldiers and not half ones like the national guard which people mostly join just for college regions or be veterans and still not do anything.

The rules for mobilization have changed. There are good and bad sides to it. First of all, no mobilization will be more than 12 months, from Mobilization day to last day of demob.

I don't think the Air Guard has that to worry about since your mobs are 3 to 6 months.

If your unit goes, stop loss is in effect and, yes, they can keep you up to 90 days after you get back from your mob even if you don't re enlist. The rules have always been like that, though.

One advantage of the National Guard is that you can usually work it out with your unit if you really don't or can't go for some reason.

There are provisions on the books for "stop-loss" and RECALL. Recall being in the event that they really need your MOS, you are involuntarily recalled to active duty. You can be deployed, which would extend past your original date of separate. The upside is if you reup, they usually will kick in a signing bonus. But, it is the guard, so who knows if/when you would be deployed.
