My male dog is attracted to my female cat, who is in heat, and is getting "physical" with her. Is there any way that this could result in a pregnancy??

No. They are separate species and aren't related in any way. They are so genetically mismatched that a fetus, if there ever was one, couldn't live. The sperm probably couldn't even make it through the "shell" of the egg because it doesn't have the right chemical cues that would allow it to penetrate the egg.
Things in life aren't as haphazard as you might think. There are very good reasons why you don't see cat/dogs and rabbit/raccoons hopping all over the place.
The reason why researchers can make an animal which carries the genes of another species is because they insert the genes directly into the developing embryo or egg. Naturally, this would be impossible.

Cats and dogs have a different number of chromasomes being that they are from different species and classifications, they cannot sucessfully breed.

What is drawing your dog is the scent your cat is sending off. When a cat is in heat she is horny and in a good mood. That's the reason why your cat and dog are chummy. Love is in the air, they may try something most likely they won't, but nothing can come from their love. lol
