I am 20 pounds overweight. I enjoy cooking and the food I eat is good quality (no fast food and little fried food) but I have just put on the weight over the last few years. I am 5 feet nine inches and weigh 180 pounds.

Well if you are eating good quality foods as you mentioned, you might want to eat earlier in the day and smaller portions. I eat off a child size plate. Cleaning your plate gives a mental "full" message. With the small plate the same is true. Try eating your dinner at lunch time and your lunch at dinner time. Also, make sure you have plenty of exercise. At least 3-4 days of 30 minutes of cardio. Your diet should be high in fiber. Fiber is a diet miracle, not recognized often enough. Fiber will reduce the amount of fat your body absorbes and provides a sustained fullness so you will eat less. One more thing that has worked for me is whenever I start to feel the urge to snack when I am not truly hungry, is I brush my teeth. Who wants to pop something in a minty mouth? I'm 31, 5'6" and 135 pounds. I wear a size 5/6 and lift weights 4-5 days a week along with 4-5 hours a week of cardio. I weigh more than other women in my size because I have a good amount of muscle weight. You have to find your balance!

Diets do not work. 98% of the people gain the weight back. Nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Salt has no calories but makes you fat and burning more calories does not help this fatness.

The only thing that will ever work and last is changing your lifestyle. Learn how to make better food choices and learn to appreciate exercise. Make small changes and incorporate them into your life so that they will stick with you. Don't try to do a quick fix because it won't help you.

To jump start your efforts I recommend that you cut your daily calorie intake by 500-700 calories and try to burn 300-500 calories with aerobic exercise at least 3X a week. Increase you intake of fiber, fruits and vegetables. You will definitely lose weight and you will be much healthier.

ABSOLUTELY weight watchers. I have seen my mom, sister and husband all lose a lot of weight eating what they want, just a limited amount of it. As of now, my mom has lost 24 lbs in 12 weeks, my sister has lost 16 lbs (her goal after having a baby) in 12 weeks, and my husband has lost 11 lbs in 6 weeks. Its really a great diet to be on. They have a Weight Watchers cookbook as well that has some really wonderful (and easy) recipes. Good luck to you!

The cheapest diet is No Food

Seriously, Drink one can of Boost for breakfast and two each for lunch and dinner. You will lose 50 lbs in five months (I did). And you cannot feel sorry for yourself along the way and tell yourself you need some solids or salad.

I guess you need more exercise at least an hour in a day which can burn excess fat in your body and drink plenty of water !!!

Try running, swimming, playing some ball games, etc. It will help you a lot. =] I hope my advice works.

eat less, eat more often. smaller meals more often tricks your body so you have more nutrients flowing and lose weight. drink lots of water so that you aren't retaining water. get moving and have fun while doing it or you won't do it long
