My computer slows down considerably when I download email using outlook 2003. I did antivirus check and I do spyware checks all the time. It also takes a while to download the email even though the size isn't that big.

It's probably because as you get incomming email your Virus Protection Software should be doing it's job and scanning this mail for potential viruses. This can definately slow things down for a few minutes but is quite neccessary.

It has nothing to do with your computer's speed, that is how outlook behaves normally. Where are you receiving the mail from? If it's over the internet, it could be several megabytes of data and that takes time.

the speed allocated for email STMP (i think) is thinner than the "pipe" for generic web traffic. This depends on your ISP and what priority they put email.

Dont froget, ALOT of people use Web based email such as that yahoo offers (free)

it depends on the size of all the file transferring your doing and how much memory your computer has installed

may be spyware problem.
