I should be able to use my dvd burning software. but what file formats will play on a normal dvd player. I know there are now some that play mp4 but mine doesn't. it doesn't see any of the formats i have. avi, mpeg, xvid, etc.
I remember when I had to make my mp3s into WAV files so it would play on a normal CD player. But that doesn't seem to be the same thing. Is it an ISO file maybe? do I gotta make my movies into an ISO file? I don't think I know how to do that. or is there a DVD equivalent to ISO files for CDs. How would I make a menu for the DVD player to go to and include it in the ISO file?
Or am I way off here? Do I need to buy more software for this? I program that makes menues and chapter selections and into a format that DVD players recognize?

first of all any dvd will work if the player will read that type. if the player dont read dvd-r then dont use them. most will play dvd+r though.
second if you are ripping the video from a dvd then it should work if you use the same program for ripping and burning. most rippers will do both. i use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter myself. both free.
if you are downloading the vid then make sure that it is either iso/cue-bin/mds-mdf file type or else has files labeled something like video_ts.bup; video_ts.ifo; then just make sure theres a audio_ts folder and burn both to a dvd that it will fit on if its a iso file then ashampoo and alcohol 120% will burn it for you and daemon can play on your comp

You need DVD authoring software (like iDVD, which comes with your Mac. Or Toast Titanium, which doesn't). You need to create menus and directories, and then convert the raw video file to a VIDEO_TS folder......and you need DVD authoring software to do that. Use iDVD. It's pretty simple. (By the way, Burn is a great app, but it doesn't create DVD's - if you already have a VIDEO_TS folder Burn will burn it to a playable disk, but it won't author DVD's).

By a phillips dvp-642 dvd playter. Can find them at target, best buy, compusa etc. From 30-60 bucks. Plays everything. You'll save money when you can put 6 movies on one dvd, not just one.

You need a double layered DVD burner, which is quite expensive. There are certain DVDs out there, (like the ones you watch on TV!) that are double layered for more capacity. Just eBay "double layered DVD burner" or have someone else put one in for you.
