I said that my sis was cruel and she found out about it. What should I do. I feel horrible about it. My niece is 23.

Your niece is old enough to realize that this is between you and your sister. When you and your sis make up, she will forgive you. At that time, you need to discuss with her that what happens between you and her mom is just that and that she is not a part of it. You love her either way and she is not expected to take sides.

I had the same reaction with my mom and her brother and I was mad for years with my uncle. I'm 26. I think I was about your niece's age when my uncle and mother had their fight.

What happend during that time was that I did not invite my uncle to my wedding, he emailed me I never responded to his emails, once I did but it was a one line telling him I was busy and that I'd write some other time.

All he needed to do was openly apologize to my mother. There had been some bad blood between the two of them for many years, he never apologized. It meant a lot to me that he showed respect for MY mother by apologizing to her. The way he treated her the things that he said to her and about her made me want to hit him for demeaning her.

How would you react if someone said that about your best friend? It's an insult to you too and you would demand that that person who put down your friend, apologize immediately.

Family or not, when children see their parents hurt, they can be just as overprotective of them as you are with your friends when they are insulted.

Best thing to do, is apologize, swallow your pride and realize you're not only hurting your sister, but also your nieces' and nephews' view of their mother...she's the one person that they look up to, their best role model, the person that they love.

This is an odd question for someone who is probably 30 or older to be asking. Oh well. Just call her up once every few days until she talks to you. She may need time to cool down, then either explain why you felt that way about your sister, or just apologize.
