A hiccup is caused by a spasm of the diaphragm muscle. It's located just below your chest. There is no known cure for it but I have found relief from taking a really deep breath, really fast and sucking in my belly as far as I can. I THINK that puts pressure on the muscle, like accupressure and helps. At least it's helped me.
There are lots of different home remedies. Go online and check them out.

When people at my bar got hiccups I would give them a glass of water with a sturdy paper napkin over the rim and have them drink all the water through the napkin. It works like the old trick “drink water upside down” but a whole lot less messy.

Hiccups occurs when your diaphragm is spasming. So I try to control my breathing by inhaling really deep breaths then exhaling all the air out of your lung and I repeat this until they go away which doesn't take long.

when i get the hiccups, all i do is a couple of things since both ways seem to help.
The first thing i do is try to lie down on a couch or on a bed and try to think about something that would help you relax, but do not try to think about your hiccups, otherwise you will continue to hiccup.
the other thing is try to clear your mind of everything, and then think mainly good things such as family, friends or anything that relaxes you.

This sounds silly but it works for my daughter every time she has hiccups. Take a large gulp of water/or any liquid, do a hand-stand and while upside down swallow the water. Stand up and see what happens.
Good luck.

Hold your outstretch arm out in front of you, point your finger outwards, and look at it. I know it's weird but it works.
Logically, since hiccups is just your diaphragm spasming, just concentrate on a steady breathing pattern.

This is what my dad always told me and it seems to work!
Fill a glass really full of some liquid and drink it backwards-out of the other side of the glass. I think it is the concentration involved that makes it work...
