It all depends my friend. After people are professionally diagnosed with anxiety or panic disorder Some people need meds and some people dont. Some start on meds and eventualy give meds up no longer needing them. Some stay on meds for decades. It all depends on you and your therapist. God bless you and anyone with this dreadful affliction!! We are truly strong souls and hope and pray that you find some peace deep within you as you struggle through this as I and many are today. Once again God Bless you!!!!!

I don't think that panic attacks are incureable. My wife has suffered from panic attacks and insomnia and depression for many years. She would go into uncontrollable rages and then have a panic attack and then be depressed for days.

About 18 months ago we started a new treatment with her doctor that involves adjusting the levels of neurotransmitters with specialized supplements, not drugs. The situation now as compared to 18 months ago is like night and day. Progress is slow, but steady.

Also, this is not something you take forever. After 18 months, she is only taking a fraction of what she took in the beginning.

The treatment has to be administered by a doctor because it involves tailoring the therapy to the specific levels of the different brain chemicals. You are tested at regular intervals so the doctor can see how the levels of brain chemicals are responding to the treatment.

Check out www.neurorelief.com and share that information with your doctor. If they don't want to help you get tested, find a doctor who will.

If the test shows your brain chemicals are normal, then you have eliminated that as a potential cause. If they are not normal, then this might be just what you need.

If you can find the reason for the panic or the lack of confidence or both, the panic attacks can be "controlled" so that the person doesn't have to suffer through them all the time. Keep a symptom journal, include: thoughts, feelings, tasks, breathing, what helped, what made it worse.
Example page:
11:34 Realized missed important event yesterday. Felt hot, chest tightening. Grabbed water to drink. Someone asked me a question...made symptoms worse. had to drink to stop it. Took 6 big gulps before tightening went away. Spent 10 mins. calming down and sipping drink before completely gone.

After several journal entries, you should be able to understand how to slow or head off some panic attacks. The ones you wake up with are the hardest to control...find what calms you and keep it by the bed to minimize them without a lot of effort when you get up.

I used to have panic attacks associated with severe depression. Its a different battle for everyone can last months or years or decades.

I overcame depression with a very balanced diet, exercise, and treatment with St. John's Wort capsules. (after about a year).

Also regular sleep, and general good health are important. Anti anxiety teas such as valarian,skull-cap, kava kava, etc can help.

its worth looking into herbal options before prescriptions if you feel strongly about it like I did. Seek out an herbalists advice if necessary.

Good luck!

Certainly for people who have high anxiety there is the feeling that this will never end... but I am here to say that there is a very effective way to get rid of anxiety and panic attacks WITHOUT meds and all their side effects (and ongoing expense). Check out the energy psychology called e f t -- it is easy to learn and to apply. Everyone from children to seniors to people with severe challenges can use it. everyone on here is going to tell you that you can control them without meds. i am going to tell you that i believed that too when i started getting them 2 years ago and didnt take my meds, and winded up drinking a case of beer to get so drunk i forgot that i had them. therapy and MEDS is the best way to control them. an antidepressant and a pill to help calm you when a panic attack occurs is the best thing. trust me. i have them so bad, i dont work or drive.....

Can your grammar be any worse? Learn to use spell check.
And no, someone does not have to suffer from them the rest of his/her life, or even take medication for them. It's just learning the right coping mechanisms and putting them to use.

Please see your doctor. That's the only way that you can get proper answers to this question, including getting all of types of help (not necessarily including meds) to help. But if you are prescribed meds for it, remember that they are being prescribed to help you. There should never be any stigma attached to that.
