As I said, I'm a Christian and I have something I want to say to all of the others here. If you have something to say to unbelievers, you need to make sure it is intelligent and coherent. Otherwise, they will just mock you. They already think we are stupid, just for believing there is a God. I believe there are strong philosophical and scientific arguments/defenses for our faith, but you really need to know your stuff before you post anything. And what about compassion!? I have been appalled at how many "Christians" seem to enjoy telling unbelievers that they are going to hell. Christ died for all of us and we dishonor Him when we act that way towards anyone. Christ wants all people to accept Him and it grieves Him when they don't. It should grieve us too, but instead some of you seem to like spouting hellfire and damnation. We ought to be more concerned with living a Christ like life in the real world instead of thinking we can convert people here with weak arguments and callousness.

Hey, that makes at least two Christians on the forum. The vast majority of the "Christians" who do those things that you mention are likely in the same boat as everyone else. They do not understand what it truly means to be a Christian, which is proclaiming God's offer of "shalom" through Christ. We frequently translate "shalom" as "peace", but it's more than just the absence of bad things; it is the presence of wonderful things. Even in the midst of adversity, I feel "shalom", because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is a God in Heaven who loves me.

Of course, I keep my reason, and I don't expect everyone to believe me simply because I say it to be true. That would be stupid of me. My goal here, though, is to shatter the false images of reality that people have built up for themselves in the hope that they might achieve something to show them that there is no purpose in anything except those things that are eternal. Entropy defines this world, my friends, and there is no escaping it except through Christ. You don't have to like the opinions of Christians, but that doesn't change God's love for you.

Yes what one says or mocks about you should not dictate your beliefs. If you are convinced of what you believe, I agree you should know about your religion. However, our main goal is pleasing God not men. Eccl. 12:13

You say, "If you have something to say to unbelievers, you need to make sure it is intelligent and coherent. Otherwise, they will just mock you." Well, if the unbelievers being spoken to are so intelligent then why would they mock a person who isn't? Anyone who does so is indicating his own lack of intelligence.

Then you say, "They already think we are stupid, just for believing there is a God. I believe there are strong philosophical and scientific arguments/defenses for our faith, but you really need to know your stuff before you post anything." The problem with this is that again, most unbelievers are as ignorant and intellectually weak as the Christians who present them with weak arguments. I don't see a problem in terms of an imbalance here. In other words, most people are intellectually weak, whether Christian or unbeliever. So I don't know why you only pick on Christians.

Finally, you say, "And what about compassion!? I have been appalled at how many "Christians" seem to enjoy telling unbelievers that they are going to hell. Christ died for all of us and we dishonor Him when we act that way towards anyone." This is funny, since you show no compassion by making a general, blanket appeal to Christians as though we are all weak-minded and ignorant and we only ever provide "incoherent" arguments or explanations. This indicates to me that you are nothing more than an indignantly self-righteous, arrogant, bitter person who thinks far more of his own intellect than is true about it.

Good luck to you, I hope one day you achieve a level of wisdom that lets you realize how inane and ignorant you are.

Thats a very interesting set of statements. I agree with what you say. I think that people need to think about what they believe in and write before just writing rubbish. My friend's husband died and being a non christian I wanted to know where his soul would go - would god understand and I was amazed at all these supposed christians who tell me that it was hell. As a community we were all very upset and yet I recieved no compasionate and empathetic responses from supposed christians. In fact some christians even chose to tell this grieving lady to her face that her loved one would be burning in hell - my how considerate and caring. What a loving way to help a grieving and shocked person!!!

I have a set of beliefs and they are not christian ok - I as a intelligent adult will accept any repercussions to decisions made but when I have posted questions I have been told I will burn in hell. Hell as dipicted by some famous artists over the centuries is a pretty terrifying place and tolerant and compassionate christians should think before spouting such threats. I dont think christians are idiots but I do find the ones that have no empathy and no compassion over bearing and callous and that is one of the reasons I have turned my back on Christianity and your statement of being a christian and living a Christ like life is very refreshing - thanks for giving me hope in christianity. God bless

I don't get offended by christians who tell me I am going to hell in any case.I think that some of them are going to be in shock when they themselves end up there because they have not acted accordingly even though they say or pretend they have. Sin is sin and no one has never not sinned so we all in the same boat as far as that goes.

I don't think christians are non intelligent either, I just think that thier answers tend to fall into two categories; one- use the bible and faith to defend an argument, two- use the bible and faith to disprove an argument, not much involved, no free thought. They say what they have been taught to say not how they truly feel. I think some christians actually question things too but are afraid to say so for fear of the unknown.

Well it is important to give intelligent and correct answers about anything you do. My advice is this stick to what we believe. The first four books of the New Testament are called the gospel for a reason. Gospel means good news. Don't feel like you have to defend good news. Spread it with joy and if someone doesn't like it, they don't like it, but they will still respect your spirit. The other thing to remember about good news, Jesus doesn't spend a lot of time worrying with hell and any one who does is missing the point EVEN if they are Christians. In the words of Isaiah "set your face like flint" so that insults won't harm you. Keep doing what you are doing because you sound like dynamic young person who has a lot to offer the world

Hey that was like one of the first things I posted too. Are you new? It still bugs me how many people are condescending and argumentative. But you learn that you can't really make other people compassionate and caring. You just do the best you can to stick out like a sore thumb. And after a while you get tired of repeating the same posts over and over again. But somehow, I am still here. Anwhoo.....welcome to YA.

Ah, it don't hurt much anymore, after a while they threaten you with hell and it's just "Not the first time, we'll find out when I get there." I still hold the belief that I am -not- going to hell, despite my heathen ways, we'll see. If I see you in Heaven I might not laugh in your face... it'll depend on my mood.

But yeah, it always gets me that to be Christian is to strive to be Christ-like. I see a -lot- of stones cast around here.

Thank you for your wise and tolerant words.

I disagree that I would mock any who seek answers here, regardless of intelligence or otherwise, I would show compassion if I'm allowed...I bow to your bravery...If I could be as brave....

You have shown compassion in a sea of fear, allow me a small bow to your honesty and integrity..

Peace from a Buddhist...in the continuing season of Christian joy..

I agree with you for the most part, I am a Christian, but have left the "organized" part of my faith. I live as I feel Christ would want me to live, but I do not associate with most other "so-called" Christians. I find most of them to be the most hypocritical, judgmental, self-important nut-jobs I could ever come across. I teach handicapped children, adopted one of my students even though she was not expected to live long. We nurtured her through 8 years of joy until she became one of God's angels. I had "Christians" not wanting to be around her because she disturbed them, and shun me for taking her in because she was ugly and different. I'll never set foot in a church again.
