The book of Revelations certainly doesn't make any sense if you try and read it like a movie script.

To further confuse things, it is a combination of several other books in the Bible which must first be understood before you can expect to unlock the mysteries of the apostle John's Revelation.

That's the bad news.

The good news is that, if you are TRULY sincere and want to fully grasp what the book of Revelations reveals, the only people I know of who can provide reasonable, logical and clear answers are the Jehovah's Witnesses. Talk to one, they don't bite. You might be quite surprised at what you can learn for free and without feeling pressured.

Other than that, I can only wish you luck in case you decide to try and go it alone, or even more hopelessly, try to get good answers from any "man of the cloth" (ie; minister, priest, pastor, etc.) or their misguided disciples.

I fully expect several "thumbs down" for providing this recomendation. Those who do are afraid of the truth because of what it foretells for them.

"All truth goes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is taken to be self evident."

All the gospels first, and the book of Acts. 2 Timothy chapter 3 and 2 Peter chapter 3 also deal with the end days. The book that will most help u unlock some of the secrets of Revelation is the prophecy of Daniel and parts of Isaiah. If u have further questions, Jehovah's Witnesses have an excellent Bible study aid which goes over each verse of the apocalypse called Revelation: It's Grand Climax at Hand.

edit: Hansel was correct in that many prophecies can not be understood until after they happen or are unsealed.

Well considering the bible has an order to it, I'd start with book 1 which is Genesis.

Anyway you can understand the book of Revelation if you have a basic understanding of Christianity so go ahead and read it if you want.

You can read them all and still not understand all the symbolism in revelation. Some of the prophecies are still sealed and will not be understood until a little later.

If you want to understand the book of Revelation, you should begin by reading up on Hellenistic Apocalyptic literature. The Book of Revelation was one of only two Apocalyptic books in the Bible, and represents a very different form of ancient literature. I recommend the writings of St. Andrew of Crete, if you get ahold of them. You should also study up on the history of the Roman Empire, particularly the reigns of Nero to Domition. A good source in Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. One thing is certain. If you want to understand the Book of Revelation, the rest of the Bible is not going to help you much.

The Old Testament can be discarded as it has been superseded by the New Testament . Avoid all Christian publications other than the Bible as they are idolatrous . The New Testament in its entirety is the only preparation you can employ in advance of reading Revelation .

In the interest of full disclosure , I am not a Christian .
