There is a stray cat that comes in my backyard for the past 3 weeks. He/she is very friendly towards me, allowing me to pet its tummy and pat its head. I feed it cat food. No name yet!

What kind of shelter can I make for the cat?

You want to use material that will be resistant to water. A wood box would be good, a plastic box would be better.

Put a cat carrier out there with a towel, if you don't have one then get a box and do the same. You could even put a little dog house out there. At least but an old blanket outside somewhere dry. And just to let you know that if you send five or ten dollars to the SPCA they will send you a certificate to get the cat fixed so you don't end up with a bunch of cute but homeless kittens.

my aunt and uncle have a cat in their backyard as a pet and it is in an enclosed area. They put a box out there (like a wooden box) but I would suggest a dog house instead, with a blanket or something in it. It might sleep in it, it might not. Chances are, if it is a stray then it is probably preggies if it is a girl, and looking for a safe place to stay and have kittens. Good luck!

I would suggest a nice plastic box with a cover with blankets and a heat lamp suspended at least 4 feet above the bed. Maybe in the garage. That way if it rains, snows or gets below 40 degrees the cat can stay warm.

Good for you for caring for this kitty! I've rescued many strays myself and I'm trying to find homes for them...you can check the out at my website

Re the shelter, I'd say it would depend a bit on the weather, the size of your yard etc. Have you considered taking it in...sounds like he likes you and would love to be your loving friend! I'd suggest adopting him, or at the very least trying to find him a home while he has shelter in your yard.
If you can't adopt him, I'd suggest checking out the web for feral cat info, like the alley cats site...many people care for cats and they probably have some great designs for backyard cat shelters.
The yahoo group kittywhiskas will probably also be of help.
Good luck. Please take him inside if you can...he'll love you for it forever...trust me...i've rescued more than 2 dozen of them and they make the best pets.

I made a house out of cardboard box under the pavilion with a down coat from a thrift shop inside the box.

a dog's kennel could be more comfortable, + a basket with a towel to keep warm for it to sleep in, a few cat toys, a scratch post too, especially if you don't intend to let her into the house at all. Be sure there's sufficient protection from the weather.

provide it some style of meat and a small bowl of milk. Lay out a pillow or a blanket... something for it to place on. in case you have a brilliant field, you would be able to desire to place blankets and pillows in there. Make a small mattress or something. positioned the poodle outdoors (interior the front backyard).f she gets interior the field, initiate going in direction of it slowly. puppy it and seek advice from it reassurably. while she features your have faith, entice interior with meat (be sure the poodle is outdoors at that factor). then you definately can positioned the poodle interior the outdoor (extra area for it).
