Not only failures even success should keep one humble.
Humility; pridelessness; nonviolence; tolerance; simplicity; approaching a bona fide spiritual master; cleanliness; steadiness; self-control; etc... up to twenty items of knowledge are described in the Bhagavad-gita. Humility is the beginning.
If one is successful in any field, the ability for that comes from God and therefore the credit goes to God.
If one is a failure, then the fact is that he was not humble enough to receive the favor of the Lord. Pride proceeds the fall.
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu instructed that one should be more humble than a blade of grass, tolerant than a tree, offer respects to others without expecting any honor for oneself and chant the holy names of the Lord.
Jesus christ also taught that one should be humble and meek in order to enter the kingdom of God.

Noone likes to fail. I do believe that failures help you to do better next time. I am still out to lunch on whether they keep you humble!

It depends on a person's attitude to the failure. Sometimes failures can make a person more proud and more determined.

I guess that would depend on who "you" is. They keep me humble sometimes, but they have also been discouraging at times. It would depend on "You's" ability to handle failure.

Sometimes my successes, when compared to the successes of others, can also serve to keep me humble.

Yes, I suppose they do... it keeps it real and that I am not always right and that I am human. It is a good example for your children and friends. If you move ahead and try to do better or change direction it is setting a good example for them and really for yourself. Why get mad, it's a done deal... move ahead.

Most assuredly.
It's what keeps me grounded in that I constantly realize that luck and fortune can easily run out at any point in time.
