Yes. The Earth is millions of years old.
Probably thousands of years before Adam and Eve there was a sixth day creation. That was the creation of the generalized adam or "man" in the sense of mankind. The ethnic peoples, the non-Adamic races or families. Then God rested on the seventh day and on the eighth day God created the specific Adam and Eve through which Christ was to be born.
Most assume the sixth day creation of humans was the only one. However after God rested there was still no man to till the ground, a husbandman/farmer. Those on the sixth day were primarily hunter/gatherers/fishermen. Starting from wherever God placed them they dispersed to many areas including the land of Nod. God said all that He had created was very good.
So then there is much which is not commonly taught but is there to see with some help in the original languages.

Of course it is not true. Why do you feel like you must convince yourself that it is?
Just think about it. That story was made up by illiterate goat herders who lived thousands of years ago. Do you think that even they believed in talking snakes? Or that Noah, one man, living in a land where wood was not all that easy to come by, could build a wooden boat that would carry representatives of all animals to safety while the entire earth was flooded.
I mean, the staging area alone would have been an administrative nightmare.
And, try to imagine a world covered with water. The tides must have been thousands of feet tall at least and, conceivably, could have been ripped right off the planet. They certainly could have altered the aspect and circular momentum of the planet. Think of the possible harmonic convergence as the whole planet started pulsing in rhythm – and the energy involved when it broke apart. Now, that would be something to see.

alphy, Genesis is a big book and it has many precepts in it . if you could be more precise as to exactly what it is you don't believe it would help. But October is right in the fact that other people were created before adam and eve. in fact all of the races were created 2000 years be fore adam and eve.if people doubt me thay can email me and i will type my fingers to the bone and explain it to them.

Is it easier to believe that a long, Long, LONG time ago, a bunch of crap collided with each other and eventually the human race developed from this stuff colliding together? Is believing in all the changes that would have had to take place, the trillions of years it would have taken, easier than believing that it was created just the way the Bible says it was? Evolution stretches things beyond belief and is much harder to accept than creation.

Why is it so hard for people to just believe that it did happen. Why do they need to have proof or something factual evidence to make the believe.?
Can we not just let it be and take it as it comes.?
God made the world and Adam and Eve in it.

1 Corinthians 2:14 - "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised."
(NAS)
A natural man (as opposed to a spiritual man) is a person who has not been regenerated by the Spirit of God. Regeneration is not the work of man, but of God. However, this only comes through the faith, humility, submission, and repentence of man to God.
(Note: this is *not* because those who are spiritually regenerated are better than those who aren't... again, it is the work of God, not of man.)
I wish I had an easier answer for you.
Whether this story is an allegory or not (though, I believe it to be literal), the lessons learned from all of the facets of it for humanity apply just the same.
It gives a good understanding of how we were created and why evil is in the world.

I can understand your difficulties. The story of Adam and Eve is a myth explaining the origin of the human race. It was invented by people wiithout access to any other explanation, and served to resolve the existential anxiety that arises from the human condition.
But it is not literally true.

There's a book I read that gets into the whole Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel and why they don't quite sit right. "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn, I'd go into it, but without the lessons from earlier in the book it doesn't work, there's concepts that you have to know, and well, I don't have the patience to sit here and explain about Takers and Leavers. Maybe some other time.

Genesis is quite inaccurate; in order to read the original story you should read the Sumerians' tablets (the Words of Lord Enki, circa 5000 years ago) where it explains how the first human being was 'created' in a genetics lab changing/enhancing the DNA of an already existing two-legged Earthling;) I'm not kidding: it's really written there.

yes Genesis is very true. Anything mentioned in the bible is true and factual. The first man God created was Adam, and took a bone out of him and created Eve. It's very simple. Remember, Christianity is based on believing and faith.
