I am a manufacuring engineer (mechanical) in the medical device industry - involved with production line support. I have been in a production line support role for about 10 years and am ready for a change. My strengths are project management, communication/intepersonal skills, and leadeship. I am leaving production line support all together because it is at times, stressful with little recognition and growth opportunities. I am considering project mangement, marketing, or productions supervising/management. What do you suggest?

If you are going to consider production supervision/management, then you will not be leaving production line support "all together"....In fact you will probably be more involved than ever. Instead jump to the next step in the process... Final packaging and distribution, but change product fields. Go to a product that is more consumer based. In this area you can use all of the positions you are considering.

If you are truly looking for advancement opportunities and a slave to a production process management is no longer your "cup of tea" a career as a manufacturer's rep would be right up you alley! In your present position, you have demonstrated that you have the ability to work with the various medical products of the firm you work for. Now use that knowledge, along with your engineering background, to sell and/or market products consistent with what you are comfortable with. This is a lucrative career with tremendous visibility and opportunities for advancement. I can't say much about the stress area, though. But if you are comfortable with the technology, the job is easier and the stress should be minimized.

It sounds like your move will need to be tempered by your opportunities. If you think that project management, marketing or production supervising/ management will be less stress or more recognition, you are somewhat likely to be disappointed. Try working on your motivation to make the change if you must make the move. Find the best reasons for moving into the area you choose. Avoid moving into a new area only because of problems you are having in the area you are leaving. I wish you the best of success in your move.
