Some ways you can tell if your ex wants you back are:
1) If they smile at you(ALOT)
2) If they still call you
3) If they date another women but keep looking at you
4) If there best friend says they talk about you(LOL that is how I found out)

i think the only way to tell is if they seem to be trying to or are finding ways to be around you again, in any type of situation.. i only say that because its not hard to NOT be around a person, and it takes effort to do the opposite
but i imagine that since youre asking this question that you want your ex back yourself, and if that's the case i say try to swallow your pride and dont be afraid of rejection and do whatever you can to let them know your feelings

She keeps making an effort to contact you. E-mail, phone, IM, whatever. She keeps bringing up old memories between you two. She asks about you, a lot.

most exes don't talk to each other unless there are children involved. if it starts getting beyond just being polite or civil to each other, then there is a good chance he/she wants you back.
