Jumproping is an excellent exercise and you should be able to burn lots of calories in a short amount of time with it, due to its intensity. I have a hard time personally sustaining 10 minutes myself, tho' I'm not all that practiced with it.

Jumping rope is an excellent way to lose wight, if you do it for a longer period of time and consistently. I would start with three minute increments. Easy, medium and hard for a minute. Rest for 2-3 minutes. Repeat. Remember to drink lots of water and if you are as uncoordinated as I am wear long pants so you don't whip your legs.

Jump rope is alright, but what you really should try is running and some more intense cardio exercises.
I guess you'd probably have too jump rope for maybe an hour a day..

Yes its a great way to lose weight...because it is considered cardio. However, dont limit yourself to one exercise. I suggest trying several things.
Running, simming, walking...that type of stuff is cardio too.
You also need to do strength exercising to build muscle strength...because the more you work on your muscles...the more calories you will burn.
Muscle burns calories.
