I am an elementary school teacher with 5 mo old son. I am torn between choosing the following: a) work ing part time to spend quality time with my son and risk losing my teaching partner and grade level OR b) keep working full time to ensure that I keep the same grade level, school, teaching partner and boss.

I feel your pain, I just recently went back to work, I left my son at 3 months. You really have to ask yourself, Is money sufficient now? will you be OK, or will you not enjoy being at home feeling guilty because you are at home? I could not afford to stay home, not even part time, If I could I would have stayed home. You can always go back to work and get a new fresh start but your child is only an infant once, and seeing them walk, crawl for the first time is PRICELESS. So if you can afford it, go for it, At least till he is 12 months. I stayed home with my first one until he was 9 months. It was the most wonderful experienced of my life. He is 8 now and we are so close. I am grateful I found a good babysitter for my little one, but I would prefer to be @home with him all the time. YOU CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH OF THEM. Remember your boss, teaching partner may leave you for another job or a family change so don't do it for them. Same grade level, am pretty sure that you will not loose or will be easier getting it back when you return. hope this helps.

I would say definitely go part time. Your little one only stays little for a moment- don't miss out on all those special times! I quit teaching after 8 years and have not looked back!!! Being home, even if you can only do it part time is the best thing you can do for your child to ensure they are SAFE, happy, and loved.

I would weigh the decision against the quality of daycare you can access while keeping your full-time work. If your baby requires any extraordinary effort to care for, I would say it's a no-brainer. Don't put work before family. A normally developing child should not have a problem knowing who Mom is compared to other caregivers.

You have to decide what is MOST important to you at this time. Teaching part time seems like it would still afford you plenty of time to spend with your son. Only you knows what is best for you and your child. Good Luck!

You should keep a full time job. I know teachers who do and have kids and their relationship with them is perfectly fine.

I'd give anything to be a full-time SAHM. Go with your heart on this.
