i live in boston, so i would get my friends to start it up with me. then once we got it going and people joined in, it would just become an open thing. we would sell heart-shaped balloons for some disease i just dont know which one. probably cancer but theres so much for cancer and im skeptical of the progress. i know thats a terrible thing to say. but anyway, we would spread out across boston so that we formed the shape of a heart. you buy the balloon and then the vendor writes a name on it of someone the person is related to or loves with cancer. at the end of the day we would let the balloons go up in the air - hopefully they would go up in the shape of the heart.

Sounds like you have a great start for a fundraising project. In order to increase the success of your project, you might want to have a more specific definition of your benefactor (cancer, heart disease, etc.) and coordinate with some of your local non-profit agencies to help spread the word.

I work with one of the volunteer centers in the Hands On Network, and they have a great connection into the local non-profit community. I would recommend that you reach out to your local HON affiliate for advice or perhaps suggestions for additional publicity. Your local chapter is called Boston Cares:

Good luck with your event!

You really haven't thought this out have you. You would need to have something more definate worked out properly, then aproach a charity and ask if they are interested. You may in fact have to aproach a number of charities. Then comes the permission from the local authorities in your town/county to hold this event. Then you would have to find out from the local enviromental agency if the balloons you want to release are toxic, will cause an air(planes, powerlines etc) hazard or if you are close to the sea or lakes/rivers if they will cause any enviromental damage. You wouldn't want to raise funds for charity if your going to cause sea turtles or whales to choke on plastic now would you. Also have you thought that the balloons themselves could be created with the chemicals that cause cancer, respiratory diseases or other. You need to do more than just 'think' an idea you need to think it through no matter how well meaning you are.I love your enthusiasm so maybe you could channel it by deciding on one charity and going to them and researching how best to get your 'idea' for fundraising to work. I am sure they would welcome someone like you.

To raise funds is commendable but please check with the airports and air traffic authority in your area before releasing that many balloons into the skies over your city. This might create a very big problem.

this would make a wonderful one time fundraising but i want to warn about one thing milions of turtles, killer whales and more die trying to eat ballons and plastic bags mistaking them for jelly fish or other such animals please find a safer way to celebrate and expose it safer would be to make a wishing raft filled with all cards and letters to all others wish to get better that you burn on a pond or such you still get a bit of garbage but it is less detrimental to the environment especially if you get good bio degradable paper for the project. go with the project just be aware of what happens after the project is done is all I caution about
