Find a local adult learning annex or at the local community center. They sometimes have"english" classes.
Also..a lot of book stores have english learning workbooks and cds. These are great tools. From there get kids books..i know it sounds stupid, but how do you think Americans learned to speak and understand english.
Hopefully you have some friends that speak english and can help out.
Good luck..learning any new language is difficult.

Read plenty of books, start from the basic, gradually progressing to more challenging ones, watch decent shows and movies in English, try and converse in English... practice practice practice. For this is "THE Global Language" no doubt about it...and as an ESL teacher this is my humble advice.
GoodLuck

Well, aside from going to a bilingual school when I was in PR, I watched kids TV shows, like Barney and Sesame Street in English with Spanish Closed Captions ON. Believe it or not, this definetly helped, because I associated words with actions and so forth. Then my boyfriend and I moved up here and we had to get used to the language and modify our accents so that people would understand us. It is scary, but you can DO IT!!!
