The only thing I've ever heard is for cleanliness.

Upon further investigation, and according to "Dr. Drew"::

The practice of circumcision is thought to have originated 8,000 to 10,000 years ago in east Africa. Circumcision is referenced in the Old Testament of the bible, in the book of Genesis 16 (Covenant between God and Abraham), and this is perhaps the basis for the practice in the Jewish culture. Circumcision became common in the United States and England in the late 19th century, because it was thought to stop boys from masturbating. At this point in time, the United States is one of the only countries in which circumcision is still a regular procedure for all newborn boys.
As for its purpose, anthropologists surmise that circumcision was first used to protect men against infection and/or irritation due to dirt or sand getting underneath the foreskin. Circumcision continues to have religious and cultural significance for people around the world, but whether or not it still offers health benefits is an issue currently under much debate

This website gives the whole biblical explanation:

If you're not Jewish (or perhaps Muslim) then not a lot. It was supposed to be covenant between God and the Jewish people. It is not required in Christianity. It's interesting to note that in the Hebrew, "uncircumcised" was used in a figurative sense to describe something that was blocked--someone with a hardened heart would be said to have an "uncircumcised heart".

You didn't ask for religious reasons not to circumcise a baby, but I'll give you one: Circumcision removes one of the most sensitive parts of a man's body without his consent, and that's wrong. It's also an unnecessary surgery that can have complications ranging from the common (sexual problems) to the extremely rare (death).

Congratulations on having a baby boy. One of the big decisions when having a boy is whether to circumsize him or not. As you can see from the "thumbs up vs. thumbs down" for the previous answerers, its a controversial subject that most people have a strong opinion on one way or the other. I'm not here to tell you what to with your son, because ultimately its yours and your husband's choice. However, circumsizion is a lot less popular nowadays because the medical community has come to realize its actually not all that important and has many drawbacks. If your husband isnt circumsized then great! He'll be able to teach your son (when hes old enough) how to take proper care of his body, and that includes washing under the foreskin. I'm sure your husband has a decent level of hygiene and has hence never had his untrimmed penis infected, etc. Thats why the idea of "Circumsized = Cleaner" is just a myth! Being circumsized or not doesnt affect penis size, however its widely acknowledged that circumsized men have less feeling in their glans (the 'head' or 'helmet' of the penis) because its permanently exposed. Your husband's helmet is more sensitive because its protected by his foreskin, and hence he doesnt suffer from reduced sexual pleasure like circumsized men. There is no hard evidence linking things like penile cancer, infections, or STDs to foreskin. If a male doesnt have good personal hygiene or has unprotected sex, it doesnt matter if hes circumsized or not! Circumsized men are just as prone to these things as uncircumsized men. I hope that helps, I've tried to be quite impartial LOL, but if you want to know more just drop me an email :-)

I am an atheist. The bible (KJV) states differing points of view on circumcision:

Pros:
Genesis 17:7
And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

Genesis 17:10
This is my covenant which ye shall keep between me and you and they seed after thee: Every man and child among you shall be circumcised.

Genesis 17:13
He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

Genesis 17:19
And I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Leviticus 12:3
And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

And Cons:
Galatians 5:2
Behold, I Paul, say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.

Colossians 2:10-11
Ye are complete in him ... In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands ... by the circumcision of Christ.

God may be confused.

I remember somewhere that Abraham circumcised everyone on his day because God told him.

Anyway, I'm pro circumcision anyway because

1. there will be less infections and diseases attacking a circumcised penis
2. it's fast and it doesn't hurt that much because of anesthetics and
3. it will not smell bad, uncirc penises smell bad because there are some liquid (i forgot the chemical name) that attaches there and smells real bad unless you clean the thing almost every day.
4. a circumcised penis is a low-maintenance penis.
5. it becomes more sensitive, at least in my experience

Foreskin and smegma are the work of the Devil

****

Hold on a minute!!!! Circumcising because of a covenant with GOD??? Now didn't you people just claim God was perfect and no one should attempt to change his creation (sex changes, et al)??? So if that's so, wouldn't removing his creation (foreskin) be sin??
