I have a car (paid off) in my name and my cousin’s name. I would like to take him off from the title and keep only my name on the title (Of course with his permission :-) He lives in Texas and I am in Chicago, IL . Is there any way I can do this without him coming down to Chicago ? Any advise ?

Just ship it to him and have him bring it to a notary and sign it in front of them. Then you just need to sign it and bring it to the DMV.

If the car is registered in IL, you have to submit an "Application For Corrected Title In Full" and an "Application For Corrected Identification Card In Full" and pay the $68 fee.

He has to to sign the forms and the back of the title, and does not have to be there in person; just mail him the forms and title.

Complete instructions are at the link below.

He can sign a notorized release of interest in the car. If the car is less than 10yrs old, he will also need to sign an odometer disclosure form. I would think you could send the forms to him and have him sign them in front of a notary. Use all original documents, no photo copies of anything, original signatures. He will release interest,he will acknoledge the mileage, you will take the title showing the lienholder has released interest, your cousin's notorized release of interest, the odometer disclosure form signed by both your cousin and you,and any fees to be paid. Go to the licensing office in Chicago and that's about it. Good luck.

yOU CAN SEND THE TITLE TO HIM SO THAT HE CAN IT AND SEND IT BACK TO YOU. YOU CAN ALSO CALL HIM AND LET HIM ON WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.
