You can also acheive this look by pin- curling your hair. You'll have beautiful soft curls without the time consuming and damaging results of a curling iron. After washing and straightening your hair, as you mentioned, take small sections of hair, roll it between your fingers(emulating a roller) and hold in place with bobby pins. (Spritz with hair spray if desired ) You may then wait a few minutes (while you get dressed and apply make-up, etc.) Remember, the longer you leave the pin-curls the tighter the curl. After removing pins, just shake the hair out and finger conb. You'll love the results!

I think that using a curling iron is a bad idea... I have the same problem and from seeing various products that my friends have used I have come up with a PERFECT solution.
I think that your wanting sort of- beachy curls/waves.
If so...
Step 1::: After getting out of the shower make sure your hair is still very wet- or if not shower. WET YOUR HAIR- PLENTY!!!
Step 2::: Sort of try and scrunch it w/ just the water
Step 3::: Use some of the John Frieda Frizz ease Daily Nourishment Leave-in Fortifying Spray and scrunch (LOTS!)
Step 4::: use the Biolage smoothing serum by Matrix- to stop frizz

Optional step 5::: to keep it shiny use- Shimmery Nights Spray by Herbal Esscences. Just lighty use- its pretty much AMAZING! It works really well w/ just a little bit. Using too much might make it look a little greasy.

HOPE THAT WORKS!

Take a area of hair an similar way you would in case you've been straightening it, and straighten the completed aspect. Then, bypass over the piece again including your flat iron, yet halfway down initiate to twirl it so your hair wraps around the iron as you bypass down. the bottom 0.5 ought to come out with a impressive curl.

use two different size curling irons. put a small section of hair into the barrel of the iron and pull down towards the end at an angle. curl the hair around the iron as tight as you want the curls. use a different size iron after each curl. (start at the back of your head first). then shake your hair gently and curl any strands left over.

after you have straighten your hair, try some "Lotta body" setting lotion, do not totally wet the hair use a small amount to moisten sections of hair as you put your hair on rollers. then sit under a dryer. You'll have beautiful soft curl, that will last longer then with a curling iron!

you could always just straighten and the curl it, thats damaging though. try a shine spray or serum first and then curl your hair with a big barrel curling iron. you could also try some hot rollers. those work well.
