It sounds as though your cat has high anxiety. At petco and all major pet stores there are feline pheramone sprays like FelAway and others that will calm him a bit. However, if your cat has gotten and idea that going outside is for him then neutering him after the fact will not help. You have to get them "fixed" prior to getting hooked on outings. Give kitty lots of love know though too. He may be acting out because he is getting older, more male hormones or just jealous of the baby getting your attention and there fore acting out. Then again, he may just be really hyper and need to burn energy. Have you tried playing with him lots (like chasing stuff) prior to leaving the house when you go to work, then isolating him in a room while you are gonefor the day to minimize possbile damage?
JUST FYI: Or, the only way that I have been told that works amazing to keep him inside after his love of the outdoors is a shock collar, invisible fence system. It may sound cruel but really isn't. I even tried one on my wrist to see. It emits a very small charge like the feeling of a rubber band snapped on your skin when they cross their boundary line. After awhile it is like pavlov's dogs, they just know where their limits are and respond accordingly on their own.

Use some cat nip for him not to claw your furniture. But male cats normally use that as a attraction for females when it is breeding time.
I really don't know if your problem will be solved when you get him fixed, if he is use to being outside chances are good that he will walk a way again. You can also try a spray, that is on the market at the moment to keep him away from your furniture. They don't like the smell of the spray. Ask your vet or pet shop about it.

You should take him to the vet early - call and explain that he's injured - has been in a fight and he is not a happy camper. Neutering will help but now that he's had a taste of the outdoors he'll probably want to go out even after he heals. Make his indoor environment rich enough that he'll be happy staying inside. Get him different toys, catnip, scratching posts and 'condo' towers. Play with him using feathers tied to twigs (or ribbons - or other cat toys). He's bored and wants to find some action. He's young - he may mellow down in time. For his safety you want to keep him inside.

You might can try catnip toys, or just the catnip and tie it up in an old sock if he isn't used to getting catnip. This might keep his mind off of what he really wants for a little while. It isn't a guarantee since it is kind of hard to get sex off a male's mind. LOL

since you have already let him out, he's not going to be OK with staying in... letting your male cat outside while not being neutered is a really dumb idea, it just adds to the amount of unwanted strays... a male cat starts to mark their territory around 6 months, they spray a really foul smell and if you dont get them fixed before this chances are, after you get him fixed he will continue to spray... and not taking him to the vet after noticing he ripped his claw out, thats not to smart either, its painful and theres a good chance of it getting infected... and you havent mentioned him having had his kitty vaccinations, if he is not vaccinated and you have let him outside, he could have picked up numerous diseases... if you are going to be a cat owner, you might want to think ahead next time...
