I'm moving to New Orleans from Albuquerque and would just like to know a ball park estimate on what to spend on gas. I would like to know how many miles to a gallon they get averagely. I've only owned mine for a month and haven't paid attention. D'oh!

i own a repair shop, and most of these cars will average around 30-35 miles per gallon depending on how well they stay tuned, the ones i see get around 33 as an average ,that's not the best, but not the worst mileage, but good for what it is,on a long trip ,they will do a lot better than that, you should be getting pretty good mileage on it,and it will run really good on regular unleaded fuel,no need for the expensive stuff, good luck with it,i hope this help,s.,,PS the government figures on these are just an average over all,and isn't hardly right i have a Nissan that gets 44,and they say it should only get 35,good luck.

Also to figure it specifically for your car (the average listed is usually at optimal standards like all filters cleaned, not a lot of stopping, driving very well, new oil and not really personal to your car's history and your driving behavior) out just fill up, keep note of how many gallons you put and then divide it by the miles that you go on that tank.

By the way, as a Louisiana girl, you're making a great move!! This state is the best!

Email VW they will tell you what the exact cost and mileage to expect for your type of bug. And if you belong to AAA they can show you where along your route various gas stations can be found. depending if you may have a favorite one..
