You mean... what do I consider.... sacred? I don't think I get the question.
Fine, uh.... lots of Christians claim that evolution is my god, so why not. And I've seen plenty claiming that atheists deify all sorts of non-believing writers like Dawkins and Harris and Smith. Oh, oh, and of course ourselves... how could I forget that?

The same thing that Zeus or Athena or Aphrodite is to anyone else. It's a myth. Ancient man didn't know enough to be able to explain phenomena like the sun rising and setting, and the weather, so they thought that "gods" controlled everything. Man never really got over the need to look to gods, and to the atheist, it seems like the human race is sort of stuck in this primitive mindset.

O.K. so I'm not an atheist. So I guess this question does'nt apply to me, but alot of times in my life I've lived like I did'nt believe in Him. One time I was at the Salem MA district courthouse, and in the clerks office there was a bumper sticker that read "A frenchman once cautioned if you don't live according to what you believe then you will begin to believe according to how you live." I gotta tell ya...I really jived with that. I undestood it, and it frightened me because even though I was brought up catholic I almost never made it to church , I slept around , did mad drugs, and a whole host of things that I'm pretty sure the fathers would consider to be mortal sins, or at least really nasty venial ones.
O.K. so I'm a hypocrite, or a backslider I guess. At least I'm not an atheist. I mean no offence to those who are its just that being called or labeled an atheist would be like getting called a racial epithet to me. I guess I feel that way because when I was younger I used to have fun with atheist friends of mine arguing over the existance of God. I guess I just could'nt understand how someone did'nt believe in God , and if it were the case did their beliefs make them deviant somehow. I was perceptive to see that alot of these people were decent , and generally did other people a good turn. They were caring honest people who were concerned about the affairs of the world. Alot of them felt that change was needed, and that personal responsibility along with a sense of ethics was the best course of action. They did'nt see pray'er as being effective, and so it was useless. I was dumbfounded because for me pray'er did work. All that is required is faith.
I guess that is the difference between atheists and believers. Atheists believe man can ,and if everybody else stopped wasting their time with some idea that some imaginary power will save us and get to work then man could alot more effectively and faster. believers believe that man can't. We are the source of most of our woes, but a higher power can. one that loves us, and would have us as His children. All we need is some faith in him and to ask for His help. If only everybody had such faith then the world would be a much better place.
Of course I've met some atheists who were total assholes. I 've been an asshole too so big deal. I guess what I'm trying to say is that what you believe does'nt make a"good" or "bad" person its how you live your life.
God for me is birth and death, marriage, family, when I say my pray'ers , and when they get answered. He is two or more homeless people helping each other.God is the ineffable presence felt when things dont go the way they should but its for the better. He is selfless giving in anonomitity. Yeah He's found in a church, temple, mosque, but also in the street in a police station(rarely), even in jail (more rarely). I've seen God in some peoples faces ,but not often, and I'm almost positive those people are never aware of it. Hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other natural disasters remind of God, but I'm not sure if He is responsible. To me love.. real love is God. To me Jesus is the son of God. To me God is as real as rain. I could go on and on but its late and I'm tired. Maybe God does'nt want him self to be proved because then faith would be useless , and faith is intregal to mans success.
At least believing in God I can hope for something great rather than believing in atheism which is really about nothing. How exciting is that?
In closing let me just state that to the early jewish mystics Gods first name is "absolute nothingness without end", and his second is"absolute light for eternity", technically He does'nt exist He's outside it. amen

Um... by definition, they don't have a God. But then again, the way I see it, Divinity manifests in the Sciences, so whether they admit it or not.....
(sorry about trying to cram a Diety down you guy's throat, I don't mean to sound like that's what I'm doing.)

To me, God is a concept which others believe in, and in which I want to believe in when I feel helpless, because I want something to be done about the situation, and I can't do it, so I ask him to do it. Once I do that I think to myself,
"Are you stupid? There is no god."
So God is only a concept to me.

No God required.
Anyway, there really is no God. Therefore, the question should be about the deviant psychology of theists that causes them to hallucinate and believe in imaginary beings.
