If you carry comprehensive insurance, this will cover the theft. You are REQUIRED to provide a recorded statement, a notarized affadavit, a police report number, your loan info (phone #, account #) your social security number. Depending on your state, you may have to wait up to 30 days before the settlement is released. If your vehicle is not recovered, they will settle the claim for the actual cash value of the vehicle. If your vehicle is recovered, repairs will start so long as it's not a total loss and a safety inspection of the vehicle will take place. Your comprehensive deductible will apply. If you carry the lease/loan gap coverage, your loan will be paid off, less any late payments/fees you have incurred.
IF your vehicle was stolen and then involved in an accident....you are not legally liable for the damages caused to another party.

If your car is stolen and fully covered by insurance, you would receive the market value of the vehicle. If you owed more than what the insurance company pays, you still have to pay off the lienholder and you don't get to go buy a new car. If they pay off the loan in full, then you can purchase another vehicle.

you will NOT receive your purchase price...if your car is not recovered, gap insurance will cover the difference between what your auto insurance company says your car is worth (actual cash value) and *what you still owe on your loan or lease.* -- there can be a *big* difference between those two numbers for cars that are less than 2 years old.

If you have comprehensive coverage the theft of your vehicle would be included as a loss under that. But reading your question makes me think of many things. I'm not going to share them with you, I think you should present this story to your insurance company and have them investigate the loss. I hope for your sake I'm not the adjuster who gets your file.

Always depends on the coverage you have been paying for. Realize that the insurance doesn't want to give you back your money(eg buy another car) so be ready for that. Were you negligent? Read you policy carefully.

So far every one is answering what will happen if your car is recovered with damage. If it is NEVER recovered, you will get the fair market value of the car at the time it was stolen.
