i have had this painful bump on the middle of my back for a few days now...when i first saw it, it had a head like a pimple. the head is gone, but the bump is still there. it's red, tender and painful to touch. is this a bad pimple, or what? i read somewhere that it's accumulation of fatty tissue or a pimple. some info would be greatly appreciated!

"Inside the pore are sebaceous glands which produce sticky sebum. When the outer layers of skin shed (as it does continuously), the dead skin cells left behind may become 'glued' together by the sticky sebum. This causes a blockage in the pore. The sebaceous glands produce more sebum which builds up behind the blockage, and this sebum harbours bacteria (P.Acnes bacteria). Since the body's natural defence against bacteria is primarily phagocytes (white blood cells), these rush to the site behind the blockage (where the bacteria are). This is what gives some pimples the 'whiteheads' (unless the Phagocytes are deeper in the skin, which means you can't see the 'white' caused by them). The white blood cells then destroy (by phagocytosis) the bacteria to prevent infection. "

This means it'll just eliminate it by itself. Clean the area regularly and try to avoid getting things on the open sore. A bandage might help. The reason the pimple is still there is because the bacteria is still in it. You might have taken off the head but the body is still alive. Hopefully, it will be normal in a few days.

It is very possible that they are just ingrown hairs. If they dont go away in a week, or get bigger, try to see a doctor right away. If there is a CVS or Walgreens near you, they have little clinics that can take care of you in 20 minutes or less. Call first and talk to the pharmacist or the doctor before you go in to make sure they can help you. Ingrown hairs unfortunately last a while so if they get bigger, see a doctor but if not then see where it goes... Hope this helps!

yup, it sounds like a boil. it is painful because there is an infection and there is an accumulation of pus inside. apply warm compress on the affected area to hasten the ripening of the boil. as soon as the pus drains out, healing will follow. antibiotics is also prescribed for that.

ive had one on the upper part of my back, between my shoulder blades for years..mine is a pimple. it does go away, but not entirely.. just have someone or yourself use one of those pads to keep it clean and the painfulness should go away in a couple days..if you dont have those pads, then soap and water will work, just make sure you keep the area clean..hope this helped

it is a cyst. cysts have pockets that sometimes need to be removed. have a dermatologist look at it.. and most likely he will numb it, biopsy it, and remove the sac that the cyst is in. then will put one or two stitches in it. When i worked for a dermatologist one man came in that had his since he was a kid. it was the size of a half of a grapefruit. the colors and smells that came out of that thing was disgusting. he also needed 54 stitches because two incisions needed to be made to get all the roots the formed from the sac. please get it taken care of before it gets bigger!

It could be an abcess...I had one the size of a baseball in my armpit last year...ouch!!!! If you go to the doc they can drain it, they numb it first so you wont feel anything, if it doesn't go away in a week then I would go, it will only get worse if not! Good luck, I feel ya!

if your worried about it go to a dermatoligist.....if its not changing, color size, or as long as it doesnt drip puss, & so long as its only painful when u prod it for hours then i wouldnt worrie about it......normaly its a pore that has become cloged or maybe a duct that has become disconected from the other end.......with fat & other things stuck....it should go away on its own.......but to be safe & as long as your insured drop 50 bucks & go as the doctor......oh yeah & if its not that old give it a week
