Length depends on level and what program you are doing. Look at http://www.sk8stuff.com

First, choose a song. If it's a competitive program, then obviously you can't choose your favorite pop song or what. However, you should like the song, know the song well, and be able to kind of feel the song. I mean, if you can't really get into the song then when you skate to it your only skating with music playing, you aren't skating within the music. You also need some great and matching choreography. I'm sure you could do some on your own, but coaches and choreographers do help.

Some help with choreography:

Find out what the music is about and research that topic. For example, pirate music, or one from a ballet. Then study that to learn some movements, and incorporate those movements to match the music.

Another tip, try to break down the music to dance to every note and not just the tune as a whole. You'll match it much better.

Finally, tips to make your program look better. Make sure everything is stable, do you best to make the moves hit on time (it gives the effect), and practice it until it's perfect.

What kind of music are you thinking about anyway?

Things to consider are :
What is the goal of your program? Are you planning on going to a competition where the program is needed? Are you taking a test where you will need to have a program? Do you want to do the program in a show or exhibition that is scheduled to be at your rink? Or are you just wanting a program to skate and practice with/to?
If your coach hasn't mentioned a program, then have you asked him/her about it? What was the response/reasoning as to why you do not need a program?
In general - if you are not competing or testing, then there are no requirements on music lenght or elements in a program and you can make up your own without any problems. If you are testing or competing however, then it is best to get professional advice on what elements to include and how they may best be layed out on the rink.
Good luck! And by all means, do play with your music on the ice and begin choreographying mini programs for yourself just to get comfortable with the way your body flows.

You need to find a coach, that will five you private lessons. Your coach will help you to put together your program. The program should be a certain length, but it depends on what you are doing it for. If it is for a competition or show, they would tell you how long it should.

try out osme moves in your room. listento the music and do what you feel when you hear it. When you are on the ice next time, try to use these steps in your program. Plan out what elemnets you need or want in the program and see where they fit with the music. With a little creativity you can create your own program without paying a coach. Not o mention that it will be much easier to remeber coming from your own heart.

You can have a coach but honestly, once you're on the ice...it's all up to you. You first need to know the rules of the competition. Choose a music that appeals to everyone....don't choose something you like since you're not the one judging the program. Depends on how many jumps you plan to do but you need to spread them out throughout the program giving yourself time to rest in between each jumps and spins.

You need to have a private lessons coach to help you. Maybe just try asking her to help you choreograph a program. Because you have to have certain elements that are required in your program and music does have to be a certain length, depending on what level you are in.

Ask your coach to help you. You should read the rule book to see how long your music should be. If your coach does not help get a new one. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!
