Everywhere I go, I see people leaving carts in parking lots taking up parking spaces and cluttering up the place. Why are people too lazy to put them away or take them back into the store?

I agree. Maybe those people should have to be a cart person for a day so they know how bad it would suck to walk around getting all of these fat, lazy peoples' carts. How hard is it to walk a cart 30 feet? They just walked all over the store with it. I ALWAYS put mine away.

I think for the most part, the answer's in the question. They're just plain lazy. I don't think there is any excuse for it because most shopping centers have several cart returns located throughout the parking lot, you rarely have to take it all the way back to the store if you parked far away.

Besides, how many damn times did they walk 20 feet inside the store while they were shopping? It's going to kill them to walk 20 more?

The only time I can sort of understand it is when it's a parent shopping with small children who doesn't (and rightly so) feel safe leaving them in the car while he/she returns the cart. But that's not really an excuse in most cases, especially in supermarkets. If you have little kids with you and the person bagging your groceries asks if you want help out, say YES!

I continually placed the figuring out to purchase cart away because i don't like it to roll into some different person's vehicle and go away a scratch or dent. i can not comprehend why some people are so lazy that they could't walk over to the nearest cart holder.

Most people feel that it is the store's responsibility to have someone retreive carts from the parking lots.

I personally feel that it is just common decency to return to cart to where it belongs (the front of the store or a designated rack in the lot).

But these days everyone seems to be looking out for number one - so most don't bother. It's not laziness it's lack of consideration and selfishness.

Because it's raining, or cold, or hot, or they're in a hurry, or they have the kids with them, or they *don't* have the kids with them and the babysitter's waiting for them, or they just don't think of it... all stupid excuses though if you ask me. I always put mine back, no matter what the weather and if I'm in a hurry that's my problem for going to the store too late. We use this system of coins to get a shopping cart now too, and it works well, but before that I was always picking up other people's carts on my way. I wouldn't walk all over the lot of course but I'd pick up one or two extra if they were in my path.

Now I still stack baskets if I already have put my groceries on the belt and have to wait for a bit anyhow; toddlers have stacking tools but adults somehow seem to be unable to stack a bunch of same-sized baskets without leaving a mess, and I'm standing there next to them doing nothing but twiddling my thumbs until the person in front of me's done anyhow.

Its because its too easy. To take the cart to the caddy would be too simple. Taking the few extra seconds to walk the cart over, and to get it out of the way for customers that will come later on in the day. Where i work, i find carts all over the place. The ones that wern't put into the caddy go off and hit cars if there are winds! i take carts in when i'm on my way into work, one cart was like wrapped around the mirror! i thought i would have taken the mirror off or something.

and for people getting paid to bring carts in....how fun is it to chase them all over the parking lot? and into parking lots of other stores? not fun at all...esp. in the cold weather.

Exactly, Because they are lazy, I hate walking out of the store to find a cart jammed in between my car and the car next to me and a nice big scratch on it!! Love it, Yeah if your one of those people please put your cart back it takes all of 30 seconds. The average American is overweight, the extra walk won't hurt!!

Hell, most of them are too lazy to walk 10 feet to put it in the cart caddy! They're sure not going to take them back to the store! It's the same reason that people ignore common decency and park in handicapped spaces when they don't need to - they're just lazy and worthless.

Your question is your answer. They are too lazy. And, as a newly disabled person, I wonder why so many shopping carts are left in the disabled persons' parking spaces. It's not that we're not already disabled enough that we now have to go clean up after the so-called able-bodied individuals who can't, or just won't, clean up after themselves. We would appreciate your help. God Bless you.

"Why are people [too lazy] to put them away or take them back into the store?"

you said it yourself because they are "too lazy"

or maybe because they're in a hurry to get back to their house and open their computers so they can actively participate to answer some of the questions here?
