I'm in ROTC & took a quarter off from ROTC-not school, to learn to master school priorities better & find way to feel more comfortable with college life etc.Well, I hang out with my ROTC buds here and there-I live at home, so I can drive down to campus, but they live in the dorms & can't-so it's not like we hang out 24/7-but we hang out. Any who,so a buddy of mine from ROTC, called to see if I wanted to go to this party an upperclassmen is having-they are both ROTC,I know the chick , she is pretty cool. I missed his call, so as soon as I got the message I called him back. I told him thanks for the invite, but I'm at home, because I don't feel well, and to tell everyone I said hey. I just didn't feel comfortable going, since I'm not doing ROTC this quarter and don't know the uppers too well. I also kind of think about an upper guy a lot, who is friends with the chick & I was afraid he might be there. I just don't want to miss out, because I didn't go.

But, at the same time I didn't feel comfortbale going, since I'll see a lot of cadets I don't really know, and the guy that I think about a lot migth be there, and I just don't want it to be awkward. I don't know. I feel safe at home, and with my hamster. Is this wrong? I am sociable, but I have my moments.

Welcome to my (non ROTC) world. I tend to get quite comfortable just being home alone with my cat and TiVo, and I often choose solitude over situations where I might feel awkward. Unfortunately, it is usually the next day, that everyone tells me HOW FUN it was, and WHAT a GOOD TIME I missed, and how I SHOULD'VE BEEN THERE!!! blah, blah, blah. Personally, I think if you listen to your gut, it usually knows exactly what to do, as long as you're not acting out of fear. It sounds like you have a pretty solid personal inventory, so never feel bullied into making an appearance, or bullied by fear into not showing up if you DO want to be there.
Hope I was helpful! :)

It's okay to stay home if you think you'll be uncomfortable. Maybe you felt they'd give you a hard time because you're not in ROTC this quarter. The fact that you were invited shows they like you and want to socialize with you. You can go next time.

There is nothing wrong with your choice to stay home with your hamster, if that is what you wanted to do. However if you would have chosen to go I am sure you would have been excepted with open arms. I think you are just worrying a bit to much, this is one of those things where it should not be something you worry about but rather a your choice kind of thing.

I think you're over-analyzing. However, I also think you should consider moving into the dorms next year. Part of the college experience is learning how to socialize with your college classmates and fellow ROTC folks. This is easiest when you live among them.

No, you're fine, sweetie. We all have our moments. You made a sound decision based on all the relevant factors. Don't sweat it.

But one suggestion: stop avoiding the guy. Face up to your feelings. I know that sounds like something Obi-Wan Kenobi would say, but you gotta do it.

It may be a good idea just to stay home until you are over your cold and your nose is no longer bright red.
