Stupid ID people and their pseudoscience is my initial reaction; however, I'm also a Christian. To say that Genesis is a literal science book on the story of creation is absurd. It gives a general picture of how God created the world. When Moses repeatedly writes, "There was evening, and there was morning, a day," this is a clear example of Hebrew poetry. He does this in the exact same way after every "day", and repetition is a very Jewish form of poetry, at least in ancient times (not sure about the present).
Also, keep in mind that Genesis was likely intended to reintroduce the Israelites to their God, because their perspective on nature as a whole was warped by ideas of the sun being wrathful and the moon being a product of rape (not sure on the details there). The story of Genesis portrays God as a God who desires to have a relationship with man; it's a complete reorientation.
Bottom line: GENESIS IS NOT A SCIENCE BOOK.
Also, gravity is just a theory, should we not teach it?
And if we should teach the contraversy, shouldn't we teach about the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

I have a reaction to "just a theory." It suggests that someone has not consulted a dictionary to determine the different uses of the word "theory."

Anyone can have a theory. A theory is not necessarily scientific. If it is not the product of the Scientific Method, it isn't science.

That the people who say this have absolutely no idea what a scientific theory really is.

Theory means educated guess or hunch back up with some things here and there that seem to fit the motif.

My reaction to that is to think that the person who just said it doesn't know the slightest thing about science or the scientific method.

Scientific theories and scientific laws are equally valid. Theories are descriptive and laws are predictive.
